The pain was evident on her face as she rested her head back. “How bad is it?” she asked faintly.

“Your feet have some minor injuries. Luckily no fracture, and the bruise on your forehead will heal soon,” he assured her.

Hearing the extent of her injuries brought tears to Maya's eyes.

“I'll call the doctor,” Ranveer said, starting to turn away. But she grasped his arm to stop him.

“That maroon car...” she gasped out, struggling to form the words but needing to tell him. Only he could find who did this to her.

“What about the maroon car?” Ranveer asked intently.

“That same car hit me,” Maya revealed.

Ranveer clenched his teeth. How could he have forgotten - she'd told him someone was following her in a maroon car. He had people searching for its license plate already.

“Did you see who was driving it - a man or woman?” he pressed.

Maya shook her head weakly. “Before I could see, it hit me again. I lost control.”

Ranveer's jaw tightened as he gripped her hand. “Okay, don't worry. We'll find who did this, and I promise they'll be behind bars soon.”

The damage was done. But Maya knew one thing for sure— Ranveer Malhotra would not overlook this; there would be consequences.

Chapter 22

Hospital

“Mom, I'm fine,” Maya assured her distraught mother who had been sobbing since she had arrived to see her in the hospital.

Garima clutched her daughter's hand tightly. “How did this happen? You're always so careful driving. And how many times have I told you not to take shortcuts just to get home faster? If Aisha hadn't followed you, no one would have even known to bring you to the hospital. How could you be so careless, Maya?”

Maya nodded, realizing Ranveer hadn't told her mother about the maroon car that hit her - Garima thought it was just an accident.

“Mom, I promise I'll drive more safely from now on. But please, stop crying and go home. I don't want you getting stressed,” Maya urged.

“You and your boyfriend are always rushing me out. I want to stay and help take care of you,” Garima insisted.

Maya pouted. “Aisha is here to assist me if I need anything. The doctors and nurses are taking good care too. It's only one more day until I'm discharged.”

Garima frowned, looking to Pammi next to her for support.

“Pammi, what is wrong with my family? First my panic attack, now Maya's accident.”

“I think we should have a small puja performed once Maya is home, for the wellness of the family,” Pammi suggested.

“Yes, that's just what I was thinking too yesterday. Let Maya come home, we'll arrange it. Do you know any good priests here?” Garima asked.

“I have a list,” Pammi nodded with a grin.

Maya sighed but didn't object. If it made her mother feel better, she would go along with the puja.

Few Hours Later

“May I come in?” Dhruv knocked on Maya's hospital room door.

She set aside the newspaper she'd been reading and welcomed him inside.
