“But you can kiss a woman without her permission? Isn’t that the same?”

He held his breath. She wasn’t going to erase that matter from her head that easily, would she? And that apology stuff was still oscillating in his mind. He had never done that; he never would.

“Miss. Maya Bajaj. We both have wasted enough time here arguing. Now it’s high time we get back to our respective work.”

“Work, huh?” she laughed sarcastically. “Looks like I am going to get fired the moment I step into Blitz again.”

“No, you won’t,” he snapped. “Aisha has handled this matter with Motwani. He will not be discussing any of this with your boss. In fact, he will apologize to your models and continue the shoot, but tomorrow. He needs time to absorb that slap today. Hence.”

Maya swallowed. Really? All of this was done? Power and money do work magic in some genuine cases.

“Aisha,” Ranveer called loudly for Aisha to come back.

“Yes, Boss.”

“Take her back to Blitz and continue your task.”

Aisha nodded effortlessly as Ranveer left the place. Maya wondered if he put such secret guards for all of his girlfriends so far, or was she special?

************

The next two days passed quick. Maya didn’t receive any calls from Ranveer, and she didn’t feel the need to call him either. Kunal and Dev Malik also made no attempt to contact her. What was happening? Was this a hint of a big storm brewing? Returning home from work one evening, she took her mother to the clinic for Garima’s next appointment with Dr. Rishikesh. While Garima underwent therapy inside, Maya sat on the couch, flipping through a health magazine. She was relieved that Ranveer Malhotra hadn’t canceled the appointments in fury. He kept his word.

“Maya,” a familiar voice grabbed her attention.

Maya raised her head and saw her father, Vivek Bajaj. What was he doing here? Rage filled her. She threw the magazine away and got up.

“What are you doing here?” she growled at him. “Just stay away from me and Mom. How many times do I have to remind you?”

“I didn’t follow you both here. I just happened to see you here and couldn’t resist talking to you.”

Maya gulped her anger. She didn’t want to create a scene in a hospital.

“Just leave.”

“I am leaving, but I hope all is well with Garima.”

“You don’t have to bother about Mom. You never did earlier, why now?”

Vivek looked down painfully. She could tell he was faking it.

“It is too late, I know. But I have realized my mistakes.”

Maya clenched her fists.

“You think I’ll believe that?”

Vivek met her eyes again.

“You are so much like me. I get easily frustrated over things I don’t like.”

“I am not like you. I don’t want to be like you either. Just leave.”

Vivek sighed in disappointment.

“Fine. I am leaving. But now that we have met, I want to warn you. Stay clear of Ranveer Malhotra. He is not worth being your man.”

Maya crossed her arms and looked away. She didn’t need her father to tell her that. She knew what she was doing and why. She also knew this was fake concern from her father, and she had no idea what he would get out of it. Vivek realized Maya’s disinterest in extending the conversation and left the place.
