“Ssh. What horse number were you asked to put the bet on?”

Maya narrowed her eyes.

“Why do you want to know that?”

“Didn’t you just agree to my proposal? This is part of it. Your first task. Give me the horse number.”

Maya’s heart beat frantically.

“What will you do?”

Kunal rolled his eyes.

“Bribe the jockey and make him lose this race. I want Ranveer Malhotra to lose this game. Now tell me which horse number?”

Maya swallowed hard. Should she really do this? If she told Kunal, Ranveer would lose, and if she didn’t tell Kunal, they wouldn’t believe she was on their side. On the other hand, even Ranveer would put her in trouble for not letting him know Kunal’s intentions. She was in a fix. She couldn’t even lie to Kunal because that would end his confidence in her, which Ranveer Malhotra would never want to happen.

“Which Horse, Maya?” Kunal shook her.

“7,” she snapped.

“Good. Now bet on 7 and go back to Ranveer. I will handle the rest.”

He walked away. Maya froze. She just couldn’t lie. Now what? She walked to the counter and as told by Ranveer, put the bet on horse number 7, then returned to Ranveer.

“Why so late?” he casually asked.

“I have to tell you something,” she murmured.

Before she could tell him, Dev Malik came there.

“Ranveer, my son.”

Ranveer faked a smile at him.

“Father,” he nodded curtly.

Maya zipped her lips. Dev Malik was purposely here to ensure she didn’t tell Ranveer about her conversation with Kunal until he lost this race.

The race began, and Dev Malik never left their side; he was always around.

“Ranveer,” Maya held his arm, amidst the cheering crowd. He felt an electric jolt when she came closer and whispered in his ears. “I have important information for you. Your stepfather is-”

“What? I cannot hear you,” he shouted.

Maya clenched her jaw. She couldn’t shout it to him because his father was standing right there.

“Ranveer, listen to me,” she insisted through gritted teeth. “Your money is in danger. You need to-,”

“Ssh,” he murmured. “Not now.”

Maya drew in a sharp breath.

“Ranveer, please,” she tried again desperately. “You need to listen—”

Ranveer pulled her ahead to stand before him. Maya shivered as Ranveer's arm encircled her waist, his muscular torso pressed intimately against her back. For the onlookers, it was just a couple watching the race together. His warm breath feathered her ear as he leaned in close.

“Now who's getting persuasive?” he whispered. His fingers came up to caress her jawline, tilting her face towards his. Maya saw his eyes dark and hungry as they held her gaze. Her pulse raced. She shook her head, trying to ignore the heat of his hard body pressed to hers. But her protest died on her lips as she saw Ranveer's mouth almost descending on hers.
