Garima suddenly felt annoyed.

“What have you given her as a father? She is our child, and you didn’t even acknowledge that when we both needed it the most.”

“Ssh,” he tried to calm her down, seeing her getting hyper. “I promise I will wipe off all her anger someday. But I need to know something from you first.”

Garima was confused about what information he was looking for. Vivek walked to the couch with Garima, and they got seated.

“I read an article in the newspaper today about Maya and Ranveer. They have been seen together in his father’s party. Is something brewing between them?”

Garima smiled with joy.

“Yes, they are dating.”

Vivek was shocked, but in the next instance, he stiffened.

“How sure are you, Garima?”

“Very sure. They both confirmed that to me here. But why are you asking me this?”

Vivek put a smile back on his face.

“Because she is my daughter, and I don’t want her to make wrong decisions in life. Ranveer is not someone to be messed with. I hope if there is anything between them, Maya should also be prepared to accept all his temper.”

Garima shook her head confidently.

“They will handle it. You don’t need to bother about it, neither should we interfere between them. It seems pretty serious to me. I hope things work out soon, and Maya gets all the happiness she deserves.”

Vivek wasn’t convinced but he relaxed back at the moment. After spending some more time with Garima, and before anyone could notice him there, especially Maya, Vivek left the apartment. Garima decided not to share this with Maya at all. She couldn't take the risk of Maya knowing that her father had been sneaking back into their lives.

************

It was the weekend, and Maya had plans to clean her room. However, everything was abruptly interrupted by a call from Ranveer. She recalled the last time she had seen him in Paradise, his apartment, where she stumbled onto him, and he couldn't help but gaze at her like he would chew her down.

“Maya, why aren’t you answering your phone?” Garima shouted from outside the room.

Maya snapped out of her reverie and picked up the call.

“Hello.”

“Are you always so late to pick up every call?” he growled.

Maya sighed.

“It’s the weekend. I have all the rights to enjoy my time alone,” she replied but in a low tone, not wanting her mother to hear.

“That’s right. It’s the weekend, and we have to go somewhere together. I hope you haven’t forgotten that.”

Maya then recalled the Derby Race. It had slipped her mind.

“Yes. So, what is this? A reminder call?”

“A warning call. Don’t be late to dress up. I will pick you up in thirty minutes.”

Maya checked the watch. It was hardly 03:00 p.m. She had not even decided what to wear. Before she could ask for some extra time, he hung up. Maya growled and got up to fetch something decent. She also had to inform her mother that she would be back by midnight. She chose a Black Palazzo pant and an off-White Shirt. She couldn't forget a hat and sunglasses because she knew it was going to be very hot at such places. Horse racing was not something she had ever seen live, and she had no interest in it. What enjoyment did people get in just watching a horse race? Where was the action here? It was just cheering and betting on your favorite horse. Amidst all these thoughts, she was also confused about why Kunal Malik didn't call her again to meet up and discuss what they wanted her to do. Not that she was interested in meeting him, but it just raised another suspicion in her head if she had made any mistake that made them believe she was double-crossing them. Could that maroon car belong to someone related to the Maliks?

Another message beeped on her phone, confirming that Ranveer was here to pick her up. She headed out, waving to her mother and Pammi aunty.

Maya got inside the backseat of the Mercedes car, where Ranveer Malhotra was already sitting. He stared at her and passed a crooked smile.
