Maya’s jaw dropped in astonishment. “You mean?”

“Yes,” Ranveer confirmed. “She mentioned it in the diary. She was pregnant.”

Ranveer leaned back, taking a deep breath. “That’s why she looked so pale to me. I thought she was sick. She wasn’t sick; she was carrying a child inside her womb. She was carrying Dhruv, Dev Malik’s son.”

Maya couldn’t comprehend how to process this revelation.

“And that’s why she hurried into marriage with Dev Malik. She had to agree to Daadi’s conditions to keep me away from her because if she hadn’t, she would have faced embarrassment and taunts from society about her pregnancy. She didn’t want to give me up, Maya. She was forced to do it for me and for that unborn child, for Dhruv. I understand. I do. Seeing my mother suffer alone was not something I would ever wish. At least she lived in the illusion that Dev Malik was a good man, that he truly loved her,” he added. “But again, her belief shattered when she found out he killed my father.”

Maya hugged him tightly as they both fell into a heavy silence. “Sharing helps,” he murmured, relieved to have finally shared this burden with his wife.

He pulled away to look into her eyes. “She shared her feelings in this diary, and I am sharing mine with you,” he said softly.

“I know,” she replied, kissing his nose. “You know, I was thinking of suggesting that you start writing a diary someday.”

He looked surprised by her suggestion. “You hardly shared anything with me before, so I thought this way you might feel more relaxed. But now, I’m glad I didn’t suggest it. Don’t ever think of writing a diary. No one can read your handwriting,” she teased.

“Excuse me?” he raised an eyebrow.

“You write like an ant dipped in ink walks,” she teased further.

Ranveer chuckled. “You know what happens when an ant bites?” he asked, gripping her waist.

Maya could feel his mouth nearing her skin… her neck.

“It stings,” he whispered before biting her collarbone.

Maya winced in pain and tried to wriggle free, but he held her firmly on his lap.

“And they leave marks,” he continued, nibbling her neck. Maya groaned in resistance.

“Okay, I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” she pleaded. “You have the best handwriting in the world. Happy?”

He stopped his assault. “And I have the best wife in the world too,” he mumbled, kissing her lips.

That was high praise. Best wife? Was she? She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Neither of them realized when they fell onto the bed, lost in each other. But the night was long, and all they needed was each other's warmth.

Dhruv packed his bags. He had spent two days with his brother, and now it was time for him to return to his new apartment.

“You can stay for another week,” Ranveer suggested, but Dhruv was firm in his decision. “No, Bro. I really need some time alone.”

“I think it’s high time you find a partner too for yourself. It’s good to have someone who loves you like no one else can,” Ranveer suggested.

Dhruv and Maya stared back at Ranveer, their jaws dropping in surprise.

“I'm not talking anything alien, guys. I'm serious,” Ranveer declared.

“Is this really my Bro?” Dhruv chuckled. “So much into relationships, marriage, commitment, and all?”

Ranveer glanced back at his wife, who looked proud of him in that moment.

“Honestly, I learned all of this after I married Maya,” Ranveer admitted.

“And there's still so much more to learn,” Maya added.

“For that, I have plans in place,” he said, giving her a lopsided smile.
