“Win—”

Before he could argue, she got out from his window and gently climbed towards Kunal’s room.

After fifteen minutes, she returned. Dhruv extended his arm, helping her back into his room.

“You found anything?” he inquired.

“We need to call the cops,” she murmured.

“What?”

“He has killed someone, Dhruv. Call the cops right now.”

Dhruv was utterly bewildered. She showed him the pictures of Kunal’s room.

“Look. He has dumped his bloodstained clothes in the laundry bin.”

“Blood?” Dhruv was shocked. It was the same shirt he saw his brother wearing when he returned. But he couldn’t see any bloodstains on it, as Kunal had worn a black jacket over it.

“It cannot be his blood because no one can even remain conscious losing this amount of blood.”

“Damn,” Dhruv reached for his phone. Before he could dial, they heard Kunal’s voice.

“Drop your phone, Dhruv.”

Kunal stood at the door, pointing a gun at the two.

Chapter 72

Malik House

“I said drop your bloody phone,” Kunal Malik pointed the gun at them, his finger gently touching the trigger.

Aisha and Dhruv froze. Neither of them expected Kunal Malik to return. Dhruv interpreted Aisha’s eyes and understood her gestures. She wanted Dhruv to keep him distracted so that she could find a way to disarm him.

“Throw that phone away before I pull the trigger,” Kunal warned again.

“You will kill me?” Dhruv snapped. “Your own brother?”

“Oh, shut up,” Kunal scowled. “Whose brother? You are not my brother. I never considered you one.”

Dhruv couldn’t believe his words, the unnecessary hatred he was spewing.

“You have changed,” Dhruv complained.

“I changed?” Kunal laughed. “Ever since your mother came into this house, everything changed. First my father... and then... my whole existence in this family. It seemed like I was the odd man out... not you... not your mother.”

“She was your mother too,” Dhruv argued. “She loved you like her own son.”

“Oh, did she?” he scowled. “Did she even have time for me? On weekdays, she was busy with you, and on weekends, she spent her time with her elder son, Ranveer. Where was I in all this? Nowhere.”

Aisha gently took a step aside. Fortunately, Dhruv had read her unsaid words and kept Kunal Malik engaged in conversation. This gave her some time to plan their next move. There was a vase on the side table. She could throw it at Kunal and make him drop the gun. As she took another gentle step sideways, Kunal pressed the trigger, pointing the gun at the floor and shot the bullet. Aisha jerked back but stayed put. Dhruv was about to make a move towards Aisha when Kunal pointed the gun at him again.

“Don’t. Just stay where you are,” he threatened them. “And you, smart girl. Don’t even try this again, or else my next bullet will be aimed at you, not the floor.”

“Stop threatening me,” Aisha roared. “Only cowards like you can do that.”
