“I want those proofs, Patel. Search her damn house. Get a search warrant for Malik properties and find those proofs. I want Dev Malik charged for my mother’s murder.”

“We will do our best, Ranveer,” Patel assured. “But one step at a time. Right now, our focus is on Adira Bajaj. We have to arrest her.”

Ranveer and Maya nodded in agreement. That’s the best step to start with.

Paradise

Garima was shocked to see the police with Ranveer and Maya. One of the lady constables got Adira out of her room. Adira kept shouting at her, but the police didn’t care. The moment she came out and saw Ranveer and Maya standing in the living room, she fumed.

“What the hell is going on here? Why am I being treated like this?”

“You still want to know?” Ranveer snapped. He had no control over his actions. He strode to her. “Cindy is dead.”

Adira startled. Cindy is dead? How?

“Who… who is Cindy?” she pretended not to be aware.

“Cindy Thomas, your crime partner,” he snapped.

Garima looked at Maya to understand what was happening.

“What crime? I haven’t done any crime.”

“Yes, you did, Adira Bajaj,” Ranveer barked. “You tried to kill my wife. It was your car that hit Maya’s when her accident happened.”

“It was my car, but I wasn’t driving… Cindy was,” she paused, realizing she just confronted the truth.

“There you go,” Ranveer muttered. “So, you know Cindy, you plotted all this with her. You wanted to hurt Maya, probably take her place in my life, and when none of that worked, you again planned to hurt her. I feel sick to have offered you shelter here. If I did so, it was purely to keep a closer watch on you. We got all the proof we needed, Adira, and even though Cindy is dead, you are not going to be saved.”

“I want to speak to my lawyer,” she scowled. “Leave me.”

“Take her, Inspector,” Ranveer informed the police and turned around to his wife and mother-in-law.

“You are making a big mistake, Ranveer. I loved you, and this is what you give me back? Handcuffs?” Adira kept shouting as they dragged her out. “I will not let you both have peace. Whenever I am out, I am going to kill her. Mark my words. I will kill her. You cannot save her from me.”

Her threats didn’t seem to bother Ranveer Malhotra. Incidents like these might have shaken his trust in people, but they also strengthened his bonds with people he loved so dearly. He would not leave a stone unturned to ensure his wife is safe from every harm, from every threat, from every pain. That’s the least he could offer her, and the best from him was yet to come.

Chapter 71

Malik House

The decision was made. Dhruv decided to move out of the Malik house. Ranveer Malhotra had supported his idea and had even offered him to stay with them in Paradise, but Dhruv denied. He wanted to start afresh. Staying in Paradise would mean he would still be under the shelter of his brother. Though he had enough things to learn about Business and investments from Ranveer, he didn’t agree on intruding his brother’s privacy for it. He bought an apartment in the city to begin this new phase of his life.

He finished packing and was all set to leave. Only one thing remained now. He had to inform his brother Kunal about it. Though he was aware that his stepbrother would hardly care about his existence in this house, he still decided to meet him once. The last few days he had hardly seen his brother home. Kunal was mostly away until late at night. Something about his routine and behavior seemed fishy, but Dhruv decided not to get into it. The more he got involved, the more complicated his life would turn out to be.

He knocked on Kunal’s bedroom door and waited. His brother didn’t open the door, which surprised him. He had seen Kunal returning from somewhere just an hour ago. Where could he go again? He knocked on the door harder, only to earn a scowl back from inside.

“Who the hell is it?” Kunal shouted.

“It’s me,” Dhruv answered.

“Go away.”

“Open the door. I won’t take long.”

Kunal opened the door in a minute.

“What?” he yelled back, holding the door between them.
