And it broke her spell. His touch and presence at the basement of her office building to drive her out for lunch had taken her into another world until he reminded her why he was here. The papers!

“I am not signing them,” she replied firmly.

There was no change in his smirk, as if he was confident that he could change her mind soon.

“Let’s take that discussion over the lunch table,” he suggested, opening the car door.

She didn’t argue but elegantly hopped inside. Ranveer took the wheel and drove them out. While they were still on the way, he touched her arm, gripping the wheel from his other hand. She shoved it off gently.

“Please keep your hands to yourself until you drop your plans of making me sign those papers,” she snapped.

There was no anger in her voice, just a faint smirk which he couldn’t ignore.

“Touching you and signing the papers are two separate agendas. Don’t mix them up,” he retorted.

The way he looked at her conveyed that there was no scope for further argument. She was dazzled when he parked at one of her favorite restaurants. She had visited this place just once because affording lunch or dinner here often was out of her budget. It was needless to ask how he found out her liking for this place. He was a master at keeping tabs on her choices. She loved him for that.

As he ordered food, she patiently admired her charming husband. His accent even slayed in the way he placed the order. Flashing her eyelashes charmingly at Ranveer, the attendant left the table. What caught Maya’s attention was Ranveer’s ‘I don’t care’ attitude which he flaunted on his face for almost every woman except her. He was born for her and only her. She took pride in it and entwined their fingers over the table. Ranveer raised their joined hands and kissed the back of her palm.

“You know everything about me right from my choices, likes, dislikes, what belongs to me, what I prefer, what I don’t,” she paused. “It’s like you know me better than I know myself. I wish I could know everything about you too,” she added.

“You would know once you sign those papers,” he replied.

Maya wasn’t convinced.

“How would acquiring a 50% share of all your assets and properties let that happen?” she asked. “Ranveer, those are your earnings, you have worked hard and earned them. Why do you want me to have an equal share?”

“Because I belong to you now, and everything that belongs to me is yours,” he explained.

Maya’s lips pressed into a thin line.

“I don’t need your property, Ranveer. I need you. That’s enough for me,” she insisted.

“They come in complimentary with me,” he replied. But when she still refused, he tried to explain it to her another way.

“What if anything happens to me in the future?” he posed.

That infuriated her. She withdrew her hand from his.

“If you want to talk about all this, I will leave right away,” she snapped.

Before she could retreat and move away, he grabbed her close and cupped her cheeks.

“Last night I had a bad dream,” he confessed.

She had no clue about it. They had spent time loving each other and then dozed off. In the morning, things were normal as usual, and she didn’t notice any signs of his distress.

“Someone shot me. I was covered in blood… cold… lifeless,” he added.

Maya could feel his pain in his eyes. She palmed his cheek to show her support.

“I am not afraid of dying, Maya. I have never been afraid of anything so far, but the mere thought of being physically distant from you haunts me. And if that ever happens in the future, I want you to have everything that belongs to me,” he explained.

Tears pooled in her eyes.

“You are strong; you can look after yourself if that happens. But if you sign the papers and accept all of it, I would only die in peace,” he pleaded.

The moment he said this, she shut his mouth with her palm, and that action was not gentle. She was mad at him.
