“Trust?” he laughed again. “I don’t think I can trust anyone again after this. I hate you, bro.”

With that as closing lines, Dhruv walked away towards the exit, leaving Ranveer broken.

“It's them or me, Dhruv,” Ranveer shouted again for Dhruv to hear.

Dhruv stopped and met Ranveer’s gaze.

“Do you seriously expect me to pick sides between you and them, especially now?” Dhruv snapped. Maya hurried into the police station. Despite Ranveer's attempts to dissuade her, she couldn't bear waiting at the resort while Dhruv and he were away. Taking Aisha with her, she hurried to the station to check on them.

“It’s them, bro. It's them. Not you. Not this time,” Dhruv replied, which annoyed Ranveer, but he swallowed that ache forming in his throat and nodded.

“Remember you are going to regret this,” Ranveer scowled.

Dhruv gave him an ‘I don’t care’ look and walked out without even noticing Maya who was equally hurt seeing the two brothers behaving coldly with each other. She glanced at her husband and noticed his clenched fists, a clear sign of his anger. Understandably, as someone who cherished his younger brother deeply, witnessing his detachment was undoubtedly difficult for him. However, Ranveer too was at fault here. Before escalating this matter, he should have initiated an open conversation with Dhruv, revealing the entire truth.

Ranveer strode to her the moment Dhruv was gone.

“We are heading back to Delhi tonight,” he declared and walked out.

***************

Maya waited outside the resort for Ranveer to finish his calls so they could leave for the airport. Since returning from the police station, he had been continuously on the phone. She hadn't got a chance to talk to him or offer support after his painful break with Dhruv, who he loved dearly.

She was also against his sudden decision to return to Delhi. He was needed here with Dhruv. Just because Dhruv cut ties didn't mean Ranveer should abandon him. Maya wanted to understand Ranveer's state of mind, learn his plans to reconcile with Dhruv. But he had no time for her right now.

The contentment was gone from his face, replaced by his old brooding. She wished she could ease his worry as his wife, sharing in his pain and joy. She would find a way to cheer him in Delhi.

But Maya also couldn't forget Kunal's ominous request to meet and discuss harming Ranveer. Though she had pretended agreement to learn his plans, she feared what Kunal might do now with his father arrested.

Ranveer was too preoccupied for her to mention Kunal's scheming. The timing wasn't right to burden him further. She would have to be patient and choose the moment carefully to inform Ranveer of Kunal's threats.

For now, she could only watch helplessly as her husband retreated into himself, his smile erased. She longed to bring back the contentment they had found in each other if only briefly.

Paradise – Delhi

It had been two days since they returned to Delhi but Ranveer had no time for her. Ever since Dev Malik was arrested, he was busy handling that matter, ensuring there was no chance Dev could escape the punishment that he deserved. Ranveer woke up early and left for office when Maya was asleep and he would return home again when she had already dozed off feeling exhausted waiting for him. Though Maya disliked his busy schedule where he had no time even for his newly wed wife, she understood the reasons he had and hence didn’t complain.

On the third day morning, she woke up before he left.

“Why didn’t you wake me up?” Maya got up from the bed and tied her hair.

He was dressed and ready to leave.

“I didn’t think you would rush to the office within two days of our marriage,” she frowned as she got down from the bed.

“I’m not going to office. I’ve some other work.”

She sighed and was about to head into the bathroom when he commanded her.

“Help me with the tie.”

She noticed the glint of mischief in his eyes. It wasn't that he didn’t know how to knot his tie.

“I didn’t hear you say please first,” she teased.

Ranveer’s brow twitched. He wasn't the only one playing games; she knew how to play them too.

“Let’s keep that word out of our marriage dictionary,” he replied. “No please, no sorry.”
