Worst of all, somehow Dhruv knew that Ranveer was behind this. He should have been prepared, not blindsided this way. He prayed their brotherly affection would withstand this turmoil. Dhruv was too dear to Ranveer to lose over bringing Dev Malik to justice.

Chapter 57

Police Station

“Proofs? What proofs?” Kunal scowled at the police. “My father is innocent. He is being framed.”

“No, Mr. Malik. He is not innocent. He has committed many crimes, and we have a list of all with the proofs. We cannot let him go,” the police insisted.

“What proofs?” Dhruv interrupted.

“This.” The police showed a copy of the papers, which were enough evidence to prove Dev Malik's guilt. Kunal and Dev were completely shocked. Dev clenched his fingers and turned back to his elder son.

“This was in my study,” he murmured, so that the police couldn’t hear. “How did it reach them? Who messed with my study?”

“I didn’t, and neither did Dhruv. We didn’t even know this existed,” Kunal justified.

“It has to be Ranveer then,” Dev snapped. “Don’t let him go. It doesn’t matter what happens to me next, you have to snatch what's ours. Do you get that?”

Kunal was infuriated that Ranveer Malhotra could be behind his father’s arrest. He promised Dev that he would avenge Ranveer and make him pay for this deed.

The police locked up Dev Malik. Dhruv was in tears.

“Bhai… how will we save him?” Dhruv asked Kunal, who literally pushed him away and pinned him to the wall, clutching Dhruv’s collar.

“You did this to him, Dhruv. You.” Kunal spat his anger on Dhruv.

Dhruv glanced downward, realizing the truth of that statement. It dawned on him how he had consistently provided his brother Ranveer with all the details about the Malik household. Little did he know that his brother would leverage that information to incriminate their father.

Suddenly, someone pushed Kunal away from Dhruv and stood between the two brothers. It was Ranveer Malhotra. The Malik brothers were shocked to see him there.

“Stay away from him,” Ranveer warned Kunal.

“How dare you?” Kunal picked up the fight and was about to hit Ranveer when the latter pushed him off with a force that Kunal Malik fell to the ground. The police intervened to stop them from creating a commotion inside the police station.

“You won’t be spared, Ranveer,” Kunal warned throwing angry glare at Ranveer before he stormed out.

The moment he was gone, Ranveer turned back to Dhruv. He was still in a state of shock and helplessness.

“Let’s go,” Ranveer commanded.

“Go? Where, Bro?” Dhruv asked, clearly hurt, and Ranveer felt his pain.

“We need to talk, Dhruv,” Ranveer muttered.

“Talk? Now? Don’t you think it's too late for that?” Dhruv repeated. “I can see things very clearly now. I think I know why you always had an inclination towards me. I thought you genuinely loved me, but I was wrong. You were using me to get to my father. I was a fool to confide all my family secrets in you.”

This wasn't entirely true. Ranveer felt terrible to see how his brother was connecting the wrong dots and concluding things that weren't true.

“Dhruv, just…” Ranveer tried to touch him, but Dhruv shrugged off Ranveer’s arm.

“Don’t. Just don’t give me any excuses. I know you hated my family, but that doesn’t mean I will leave them at this stage alone,” Dhruv insisted.

Ranveer clenched his jaw.

“You have no idea what they have done. Don’t trust them,” Ranveer warned.

Dhruv let out a sarcastic laugh.
