“More than missing you, I was afraid of the consequences of your act. If anything would go wrong, do you realize what would have happened?”

Ranveer smirked, caressing her cheek with the back of his thumb.

“When I plan things, they never go wrong.”

It was this attitude of his that scared her and even pissed her off. She shrugged his finger from her cheek, drawing his attention unknowingly to her Mehndi-clad palms. He grabbed hold of her wrist and drew her palms for a closer look. His pupils dilated seeing the color and design on her palms. She stared at his face as he admired her palms. She hadn’t paid attention to her palms so well yet because she was lost worrying for him. Her Mehndi color had darkened, and ritually it meant her husband loved her extremely; which was true. Ranveer had really left no chance to shower his attention, love, protectiveness, and possession on her.

“Here,” he pointed out somewhere in the middle of her palm, drawing her attention there.

She hadn’t realized his name was drawn there inside the small heart design at the center of her palm.

“You know what that means?” he asked fondly, gazing back into her eyes.

She was clueless. So far, all she knew was that it’s a tradition to write the groom's name on the bride’s palms, but it looked like he knew its significance.

“It means I am bound to your destiny now,” he answered.

Maya was awed at his reply.

“How do you know that? Who told you that’s what it means?”

The smile on his lips was gone again.

“My mother,” he murmured weakly. “I had asked her once when she used to write my father’s name in her palms, constantly. I loved it whenever she had Mehndi drawn on her palms. I loved its smell; it reminds me of her.”

Maya patiently listened to him. He walked away from her to the glass window, looking at the dark sky with stars twinkling here and there.

“She had some divine beliefs, and she passed that on to me,” he looked deeply at the sky as if looking for his mother.

Maya walked to him and stood next to the window, looking at the sky.

“What beliefs?” she urged him to continue.

“Forget it. Let's talk about something else.”

“I wish to know,” she pouted. “Please.”

He let out a low sigh, recalling those moments he spent with his mother.

“She always told me that somewhere someone is made for me,” he replied. “She constantly emphasized this belief to me. I used to argue with her, saying that she is all I want. However, she wanted me to have a backup plan, just in case she had to leave me someday. She was aware of my temporary affairs and my short-tempered attitude, and I think that troubled her. She wanted me to believe in love and wait for that special woman who would embrace my world, accept my flaws, and shower me with her goodness. I never believed her because I had been with different types of women so far, none of whom could truly love me for who I am and genuinely care about me rather than my wealth. How could I trust my mother's beliefs then? I found them stupid... illogical... until…” he faced her. “Until I met you.”

Maya smiled. He really had high hopes from her, and she would fulfill them, all of them. She gasped as he brought her closer, sliding his arm around her waist. Their noses brushed.

“Mrs. Maya Malhotra, I think I have fallen for you… head to toe… Will you take the vows with me tomorrow?” he proposed.

Maya hadn’t expected him to do so. Probably even he hadn’t planned it out. It just happened, and she now has to reply because he is desperately waiting for it. Why not just play around a bit?

“What if I … deny?” she held back her laugh.

Ranveer gripped her tighter.

“You can’t refuse me,” he grinned. She became speechless. It’s hard to see him; he was that close. “And you are blushing like a rose.”

She brought her fingers to his chest and grabbed his shirt, shutting her eyes to submit herself in this moment.

“Not yet…” he shook her a bit and forced her to open her eyes again. “I need my proposal’s reply.”

Her throat dried. Ranveer kept admiring her face. She was very comfy and cuddle-able right now that it got hard to keep his hands and lips off her.
