“I am sorry to drag you into all this,” Maya murmured, feeling low.

He shot a wry glance at her but seeing her depressed mood, he decided to lighten it up a bit.

“I thought you would pounce on me for declaring it to the officers that we are getting married.” He sipped another coffee served by Laura a few minutes ago. “Especially when you still haven’t declared it officially to me yet,” he added.

“Ranveer,” she sighed, looking away, unwilling to focus on any other topic but the present mess created by Adira. Ranveer shifted from his seat and settled next to her on the couch.

“She cannot surpass us,” he assured. “Adira is going to lose, no matter what accusations she puts against you. And I will personally look into it. No harm will come to you, I promise.” Ranveer kissed her forehead. It was meant to soothe her and it did.

His confident assurance with a kiss like that meant the world to Maya right now. He was the only one whom she trusted could keep her away from problems.

Chapter 45

Roy, Ranveer’s lawyer, reached Paradise to take care of the legal aspects of Adira’s complaint. Maya gave her statement to Roy, who listened carefully and made his notes.

“We first have to check the CCTV cameras of the clinic and make them delete the footage,” Roy suggested.

“That’s done already,” Ranveer sipped his coffee.

Maya was amazed; when did that happen? And she had never thought about it so minutely.

“Aman has taken care of it,” he informed.

“Great,” Roy exhaled. “Adira won’t have any proofs to support her complaint. Plus, since she is already a suspect for Miss. Bajaj’s accident case, we still have a strong reason why she would try to defame Maya. We should be able to close the case without much hassle.”

He wrapped up the papers, took Maya’s signatures where required on the legal documents, and shook hands with Ranveer to leave.

“Close it once for all, Roy,” Ranveer almost threatened. “Keep all the other stuff aside, work on this, in priority.”

“Of course, Ranveer. You don’t worry. Nothing will be leaked to the media as well. I will ensure that too.”

Maya was tongue-tied. She watched the two speak for one more minute, and then Roy left the house. Ranveer reached back to the couch where she was sitting.

“It’s over. Get over it now.”

She shook her head in disappointment.

“I should not have raised my hand on her.” She buried her face in her palms, in disbelief.

“Maya,” he sat next to her. “We are humans. We lose control, make mistakes. But it always teaches us something.”

She raised her head and met his eyes.

“To correct ourselves,” he added. “To never repeat those things again in our lives.”

She didn’t know he could explain such hardcore moral values so well.

“Says the man who loses his temper every now and then?” she mocked.

He rolled his eyes and leaned back on the couch, taking another sip of his coffee.

“My case is different,” he shrugged.

“That’s another topic of debate. But seriously, I feel like going and apologizing to Adira for what I did.”

“Don’t,” he shouted back. “Don’t complicate the matter. Everything has an appropriate time; you will do it if you want, but not now. Only when the time is right. Let this matter ease down first and then you can do what you want. Am I clear?”

He had a point. She shook her head.
