“Hardly 7.”

“7? He was so small. A child of that age had all rights to stay with his mother.”

Daadi frowned back at her.

“Don't hold me responsible, Maya. I had kept this condition before his mother. To either choose her son or Dev Malik, and she made her choice. So, I had to keep mine.”

Maya was still not convinced. Maybe if Ranveer had stayed with his mother, got her love and affection, he wouldn’t have been so tough and ruthless today.

“Seems like Ranveer has never spoken to you about all of this,” Daadi pinpointed.

Maya looked down. No, he hadn’t, and probably he never would.

“He is very secretive,” she murmured.

“Yes, he is,” Daadi agreed. “He has never let people peep into his inner self, because he is worried that they would advise him, show some pity, and make his vulnerable side wide open for others. For a man like him, all of this is like a nightmare.”

Maya agreed. He was scared of letting people know what he had gone through. It was hard to imagine a powerful man like him so afraid of feelings and emotions from inside.

“He didn't mention to any other women who came in his life seems fine to me. But you? He considers you more than that. He should have told you,” Daadi replied.

Maya didn’t know what to say. Their deal was real. But they at times felt each other’s turmoil, anguish and confusion, yet she termed it all fake? How was this possible? Daadi pressed Maya's hand gently.

“You are very special to him, Maya. I suppose he will share all this to you soon. And somehow only you seem to be capable enough to give him that shoulder.”

Maya's throat ached in pain. Was she really that gifted? She couldn’t imagine him being weaker at heart and letting his emotional side takeover.

“I don't know,” she replied.

“When the right time comes, you will be able to handle all of him, trust me.”

Daadi's faith in her boosted Maya a bit, but only time would tell if she could really handle it all.

“Ranveer,” Daadi smiled happily, looking at the elevator.

Maya turned around to see him. He had worn a simple maroon T shirt on his black jeans, the coolest and homeliest look she had seen him in so far.

“We were just talking about you,” Daadi muttered as he took a seat next to her, looking right through Maya's eyes as if reading what she was thinking.

“Really?” he asked. “I hope you didn't scare my girlfriend telling her my past mischiefs.”

Daadi chuckled.

“No, I didn't. I don't want her to run away. She is good for you.”

When Daadi openly confronted that, both Ranveer and Maya stiffened.

“My choice can never go wrong,” Ranveer added.

Daadi nodded and got up. “I will go check if the dinner is ready.”

The moment she went, Maya interjected. “What about all those women you dated in the past? Weren't they your choices too? And as far as I see, none of them were right for you,” she commented.

Ranveer pressed his lips, his gaze narrowing. “Why didn't you meet me before? All these temporary flings of mine would never have taken place.”

Maya swallowed. Did he really want to settle down with her?

“You think you are ready to settle down with just one woman lifelong?”
