“Why does Daadi stay here? She can stay with you, can't she?”

“She likes it here.”

“I understand that, but—”

“This place was her and grandfather’s hideout whenever they wanted to stay away from the world. So, after him, she thinks all of his memories are tied to this place. She will never leave.”

Maya felt her sentiments.

“And why did she smile at you like that? As if she was approving me to you.”

Ranveer didn’t reply to that.

“I asked you something, Ranveer.”

The elevator doors opened again, and a few hotel guests stepped inside. Ranveer pulled her closer to let the guests accommodate. Maya felt her heart fluttering. His palms curved on her waist.

“That’s right,” he said huskily. “She has approved of you.”

“Approved for what?” she whispered back.

“To be my wife,” he replied with a teasing smile.

“What?” she shot back.

The guests turned around, and she felt her cheeks burning red. She shouldn’t have shouted like that. Fortunately, their floor arrived, and he dragged her out of the elevator.

“Wife?” she retorted as they entered their room. “How could she think like that?”

“Why not? You are the first woman I have introduced to her. She has all the right to judge if we are taking it forward.”

“But we are not,” she snapped.

Ranveer clenched his jaw. The intercom buzzed. He answered.

“Yeah, we will be there in 30 minutes.”

He hung up.

“Get ready fast. We have no time for this argument.”

Maya cursed the timing. She wanted to make this clear to Ranveer that she was never going to think about him seriously but every time she tried, they were intruded.

Auction

The auction was for all vintage cars from the 19th century. Maya was amazed to see these age-old vehicles, still functional. Ranveer bought one such car for almost double its price.

“Why this car? I mean, what's so special about it?” Maya asked him after he signed the cheque and handed it over to the auction manager.

“My grandfather always had an eye on this car and wanted to gift it to Daadi. But he couldn’t,” he shrugged. “After him it had been my top priority to get it for Daadi. Fortunately, because this organization planned the auction so that they could use the money to do some charitable work, I could buy it.”

It was a sweet gesture. She would have never known otherwise that Ranveer was so thoughtful about his grandfather’s wishes. He didn’t seem to be a family man, yet he was one from the inside.

“I will finish the remaining formalities. Stay here,” he said and left, while Maya kept checking out the other cars.

“Hi, Babe,” she heard a familiar voice. She turned around to see Kunal Malik.
