“Her? Oh, there’s a woman involved?” Ryder raised his brow as he watched SynTanner. The usually well composed man actually let slip an expression that looked like a blush. His eyes averted from Ryder for a moment, as if he was embarrassed.

“Whoa. What in the hell was that!” Ryder accused. SynTanner adjusted his expression so quickly, if you weren’t watching him, you wouldn’t have seen his change to begin with.

“What was what?” he asked.

“No, no don’t try and play that shit with me Cap. I saw the look on your face.” SynTanner grunted, but he knew he was caught and there was no sense in hiding in.

“Yes. There’s a woman involved. I’ll give you the details at another time, but I’m just gonna look after her for the night and we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”

“But there’s something about her, isn’t there?” Ryder asked. SynTanner grunted even harder.

“Ugh, yeah. I feel different around her. Can’t explain it. And she’s the most adorable thing ever, with a lick of sexiness that would make even a priest sin,” SynTanner sighed.

“Well damn. Sounds like one hell of a woman. Do me a favor and just don’t screw it up.”

“Shit, I may have. Said some stupid shit before you arrived.”

“So, what are you doing down here chopping it up with me for? You need to go up there and apologize like hell. Any woman that makes SynTanner Monroe blush is a woman worth keeping. Just level down on the dickheadedness and show her that you’re a good man despite your apparent need to be gruff,” Ryder shrugged.

“You know me too well. One day I’m going to have to kill you for it,” SynTanner grunted.

“Aw, I love you like a brother too. You surely treat me like your younger brother.” Ryder grinned at him before turning to leave.

“Take care of yourself and you know you can call me for anything,” Ryder waved as he walked off, disappearing through the front doors. SynTanner watched him for a moment until he saw Ryder get into a car and drive off. Seeing him leave safely, SynTanner felt comfortable to walk away.

Back in the room, the shower was still running. SynTanner eased back into the couch as if he hadn’t left in the first place. Blossom’s voice hummed over the sound of the rushing water in the sweetest of ways. SynTanner closed his eyes, listening to her humming softly and he swore he felt like he was in heaven, listening to an angel sing and strum a harp. Even her humming was adorable. How could that even be?

The sound of the water cut off abruptly. SynTanner’s eyes snapped open, his little daydream coming to an end. He sat there patiently but eagerly, waiting for Blossom to emerge from the bathroom. Ten minutes went by when finally, the door to the bathroom creaked open. Like an eager dog, SynTanner’s eyes were fixated on the door. Steam rolled out like clouds as Blossom walked out of the bathroom. Pink caressed her skin in the tank top and matching sleep shorts that she was wearing. She’d tied her hair into a bun on top of her head, revealing her elegant neck and shoulders. Her skin was glowing from whatever lotion she had used on her body. SynTanner opened his mouth to say something to her, but she looked at him casually and it was as if the words lodged in his own throat. The scalding stare she had given him before she took her shower was gone but still the look, she carried on her face was one that warned SynTanner not to mess with her.

“You—uh—you smell nice,” he stammered. She glared at him as she sat on the edge of her bed, putting away her lotion and body wash and folding the clothes she had on before she showered.

“Thanks,” she replied tartly, continuing to organize her bag. SynTanner couldn’t stand the tension between them.

“Look, I didn’t intend to offend you, Blossom,” he replied softly. “I may have my own point of views but that didn’t mean I had to say it the way I said it. Still, the way it came out I guess wasn’t called for. I suppose if I knew you were going to be in charge of helping my love life, I would easily trust you. You’re just that kind of woman. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings.” She zipped her duffel bag closed and sighed hard.

“Ah, I can’t stay mad at you anyways,” she huffed. “Maybe I overreacted to begin with.”

“I’m sorry for my gruffness,” he smiled at her.

“We all have our personalities,” she shrugged.

“Maybe you can help me.”

“I thought you said that you’d never change?” she questioned.

“Well, that was a little harsh. And I’m naturally gruff, that won’t change. But maybe I can learn when to turn it off.”

“No, I won’t help you,” she sighed. SynTanner was actually surprised.

“Shit, that’s harsh,” he grunted. Blossom chuckled.

“I won’t help you because you don’t need my help. You’re still a gruff man, but yet you just apologized to me in the smoothest of ways that helped me not to feel so damn butt hurt. You know when to turn it off Tanner. You just probably feel like turning off your gruffness must be well worth your time for something you care about.” Blossom placed her bag on the ground. She crawled on all fours towards the head of the bed. SynTanner’s eyes nearly dropped from his skull, seeing the ripe roundness of her ass in such a position. Was she trying to tempt him?

“Are you trying to bait me to see if I’m a gentleman? Because I promise you, I’m not,” he stated. She turned back and looked at him. Only then did Blossom realize she had her ass tooted in the air directly in front of him. All she was doing was pulling the covers down so she could slip into bed. Heart racing, she yanked the covers back and scurried under the covers.

“That wasn’t my intention!” She squealed. The heat in his eyes was blistering and it nearly scalded her skin. Skin that was now longing for his touch. Her chest was rising and falling rapidly. Here he was talking about not being a gentleman but at the rate her own body was responding, she probably wouldn’t be a proper woman if she didn’t get herself under control. The untouched need of a sexually deprived woman wanted to abandon all class and throw herself at the man. However, the reasonable part of her brain that realized he was a damn cop for goodness sake and she was still a kidnapping victim made her continue to keep her distance. Blossom continued to stare at him, hoping that he believed that she wasn’t trying to seduce him.

“I only seduce men I intend to be with. So, trust me—”
