“Exactly. Then everyone would know that I got you to love me for me.” The frown deepened. “Jade? Do you think you could love me without a stack of credits in the bank? Even without the credits I promised in the contract?”

Say no. Or say yes, but lie. Credits are security. You can’t ever fall into a position where you have to take whatever job you can get, even the jobs you hate.

That wouldn’t happen this time. I’d go home. I’d go to Lynx-Nineteen and ask Miles for a job and live with Claude and Griselda. I’d... I’d still be alone.

“Ardol, I’d love you without a credit to either of our names.”

“You had to think about that.”

“Yeah, I did. I had to think about what it would be like to be poor and alone again, to be forced to take whatever job I could get.” Her eyes sparked with anger and then with simple intensity. “Do you know what I realized?”

“What?”

“As long as you stay with me, I don’t care if we don’t have money. I need to be with someone who makes me feel like... like I’m going to be safe. Like I won’t have to live with choices I hate.”

“I wouldn’t ask you to do that. And if you want the contract, we’ll keep it. I just... I wondered if sometimes you might think of me as the client who wouldn’t leave. I didn’t mind being just a client at first, but now... Did I mention I’m selfish? I’m very selfish. I want you all to myself, on my terms.”

“It’s a good thing that selfish looks good on you. When we get back from visiting your dad and letting you do your political magic, then we’ll see what we can do about the contract.”

“Good. In the meantime, we have about twenty hours to kill in this tin can, and we had an early start. I didn’t get any ‘breakfast.’” Ardol licked his lips.

Jade allowed herself to be shuffled back to the bed, and Ardol buried his head between her thighs, his mouth hungrily working against her constantly aroused slit while his paw stroked feathery circles around her pucker. All of her nerve endings were instantly alight and her brain shut down—but in a good way. She let herself relax, rocked on a cushion of pleasure and the gentle whooshing sensation of the freighter moving at top speeds.

It would be more romantic to wait until we got to Leopardine-One, to have our first time in a palace with wine and flowers, just like Ardol talked about...

“Ungh!” She gave a needy thrust of her hips.

But I want him now. I don’t need the luxuries! I need him.

“I want you in me,” Jade whispered, struggling out of her shirt.

Ardol pushed his tongue inside with a practiced flick against her g-spot.

“Not your tongue. Not your tail.”

Ardol’s head bobbed up so fast it was comical. “What? Now?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Are you sure?”

“Mmhm.”

“But... There are probably people coming in and out of the transporter bay.”

“This shuttle can withstand space travel. I’m pretty sure they won’t hear us.”

“Good point.”

“Would you rather risk a miner overhearing us or your dad catching me screaming the dirtiest things you’ve ever heard?”

“Even better point,” Ardol agreed, and stood up to push his trousers off.

“This bed is soft, and it’s cozy. I want you pressed up close. Hold me tight.” Jade tossed her underwear and bra after her skirt and top, heart thundering with excitement and nerves.

It’s okay. You’ve done this a million times. Maybe literally.

It already feels so good. He’s going to make you feel even better.
