“Good morning.” Damon sighed before he placed another kiss on my skin. “How long have you been awake?”

“Just woke up. I think it had something to do with all the rain.”

“Yeah, it’ll do that.” He sighed again. “Although, I thought Atlanta was a pretty rainy place, too.”

“True…”

“But?”

“But I’m just wondering how you knew that.” I laughed. “That’s like a Jeopardy question fact or something. I don’t think a lot of people know that about Atlanta.”

“Fine. You got me.” He laughed. “Maybe I’m secretly a Jeopardy nerd.”

I turned to look at him, my eyes wide and impressed. “Seriously? So, on top of everything else, you’re also a secret genius or something?”

“On top of everything else?” Damon playfully quirked an eyebrow.

“That’s not what I—I didn’t mean—” I turned away from him, embarrassment heating my face to a million degrees. “I just meant that you’re an interesting person. That’s all.”

“I knew what you meant,” he said, his fingers trailing down my shoulder and forearm, light as a feather.

Ugh.

This felt good. Too good.

It felt like I’d had a look at so many of Damon’s pros and now I desperately needed to know about the cons. There had to be a downside to him, something that was going to shake me right out of this crush-like stupor over a guy I’d just met yesterday.

“Have you ever been with a guy before?” I asked, my question a little low. “I know that you mentioned having partners before but—”

“No.”

Ah. There it is.

I knew this was too good to be true. I was just an experiment, a one-off good time, a story to tell his friends when they were all a little tipsy—

“But I liked it. A lot,” he continued. “What we did last night was amazing, Sam. It just felt so… incredible.”

“Oh.”

“Oh?” I could hear his tone shift to something more serious. “You sound surprised that I enjoyed myself.”

Just then, Damon reached for my hips, rolling me over to face him. When I looked over at him, I saw concern etched across his features. “Sam?”

“Yeah?”

“I want you to be honest with me. Are you having second thoughts about what happened between us last night?”

“What makes you say that?”

“It’s okay if you are, Sam,” he replied. “This doesn’t have to happen again, and it doesn’t have to mean anything—”

“It’s not that.” I shook my head as I spoke. “It’s just hard to believe. Honestly, it kind of feels like I’m dreaming and at any second, I’m going to wake up and still be at the airport or something.”

“I’m that good, huh?” Damon joked, his mouth wide with a grin.

“Whatever.” I playfully rolled my eyes, just as Damon beamed again.

“All right. Time to hop in the shower,” he started, stretching out his hand to nudge me out of bed. “Should probably try to make it a short one with the storm and all.”
