“So how do you know our Camila?” Emily asks with a playful lilt to her voice.

Renzo leans back in his chair casually. “Oh, Elio introduced us. I could tell my brother had a little crush on her right away.”

He winks at me, and I feel my cheeks flush. I stare at my salad, pushing a tomato around with my fork.

Renzo eats up the attention, playing coy and flashing his dimpled grin. But even as he chats with my friends, I can feel his eyes drifting to me every few seconds.

“Elio and Camila are so cute together!” Lucia gushes.

Renzo nods. “My brother tends to get a bit obsessed with his interests.”

There’s an edge to his voice that makes me glance up. His dark and suggestive eyes lock on mine, and I quickly look away.

“So Renzo, do you have a girlfriend?” Lucia asks boldly.

He chuckles. “Nah, I like to keep my options open.” His foot nudges mine under the table. “Play the field, you know?”

Lucia and Emily giggle at his remark. I shift my foot away from his, my heartbeat picking up.

“What about you, Camila?” Renzo asks, his voice dropping an octave. “Seeing anyone special besides my dear brother?”

I shake my head, avoiding his burning gaze. “No, just Elio.”

Renzo leans in close, his breath hot on my neck. “You sure about that, bookworm?”

A visible shiver goes through me. Thankfully, Lucia and Emily are too distracted by Renzo’s good looks to notice my reaction.

“Oh yes, Camila only has eyes for Elio,” Maeve says dreamily.

I force a tight smile. “Yeah, he’s great.”

Renzo sits back, looking far too satisfied. I avoid his eyes for the rest of lunch, trying to focus on my friends. But I can feel Renzo’s presence beside me, his leg occasionally brushing mine under the table.

It’s going to be a very long lunch period. I rack my brain for an excuse to leave but come up blank.

So I’m forced to endure Renzo’s unwavering focus on me as Lucia continues peppering him with questions. His leg presses against mine under the table, a subtle reminder of our shared secret.

I’ve never been more grateful for the end of a lunch period. When the bell rings, I gather my things and make a beeline for the exit. The farther I can get from Renzo Barone, the better.

CAMILA

Elio’s arm is draped around my shoulder while we sit together on the bench in the quad. He’s talking about his favorite Mexican restaurant, where he wants to take me for dinner this weekend after the opera. But my mind is elsewhere, consumed by the guilt that has been eating at me for days.

I can’t stop thinking about what happened with Renzo. How I let him touch me, kiss me, and make me feel things I’ve never felt before—things I should only be feeling with Elio.

Elio must sense my distraction because he stops mid-sentence and tilts my chin up to look at him. “Hey, what’s going on in that beautiful head of yours?”

I smile, trying to push away the memory of Renzo’s hands on my body. “Nothing just stressed about classes.”

Elio frowns. “Camila, you know you can talk to me about anything, right?”

I nod, swallowing the lump in my throat. There’s no way I’m telling him that his brother licked me to climax after the party.

“Are you worried about Saturday night? As we don’t have to?—”

I stop him with a kiss, shaking my head when we part. “No, definitely not. I’m ready.”
