He frowns but we continue our meal in silence.

My heart kind of hurts when my mom doesn’t ask any more questions. She just chats with Albert quietly, barely even looking at me.

It feels like she doesn’t care.

Enzo and Nico touch me under the table whenever they can, but when it’s time to go to bed, they go to their room and stay there – leaving me feeling confused.

What the hell?

Sleeping alone after getting used to being sandwiched between them feels weird.

I toss and turn but I can’t manage to fall asleep.

I think about knocking on their door – demanding that they come make me feel better, or at least snuggle with me while I fall asleep, but my insecurities are in full force.

The clock says 2am by the time I give up and drag my ass out of bed. If they won’t come to me, I’ll go to them.

Pillow in hand, with a blanket wrapped around me, I shuffle through our adjoining bathroom and carefully ease their door open.

There’s a lump in the large King-sized bed in the middle and I assume that must be Nico. A full-size lofted bed is in the corner, over a dual desk and there’s another lump there. Enzo.

The room is strangely quiet – not even their snores. I take a step forward and hear a click.

“Don’t move,” a sleepy voice growls.

I freeze.

“What?” I ask, confused.

“Christina?”

The lump on the lofted bed shifts and then a soft light illuminates the space. Enzo is sitting up in bed, his gun in his hand – rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

He looks down at me with concern and quickly throws his covers back and jumps down, landing on his feet like a cat.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” He says, urgently.

Nico sits up and quickly hurries over to stand before me.

“Angel, tell us – are you okay?” He asks.

I don’t know what to say and I’m feeling a little dumb. Enzo’s hands rest on my shoulders, and he looks me over, clearly making sure I’m unharmed.

“I’m fine, I promise,” I whisper, mortified that my impulsive act has worried them.

“Why did you come in here, Angel?” Nico asks. He rubs his chin with one hand and studies me. Sometimes, when he looks at me like that, it feels like he can see right through me. Now is definitely one of those times.

“I, uh, missed you guys,” I say, lamely.

Enzo’s grip on my shoulders tightens and he snorts. I look up into his eyes sparkling with amusement as he lets out a boisterous laugh.

“Nico,” he chortles, “I think our pretty princess just tried to booty call us.”

Nico laughs as well but he steps forward, invading my space.

“Is that true, Angel?” he asks, stroking my cheek with one finger. “Did we leave you wanting?”

I nod and hug my pillow tighter to my chest. This is embarrassing, but, as I squirm under their stares, I’m already in it.
