“Why are you smiling so much?” I ask Christina, catching her by the wrist, pulling her around to face me at the breakfast table. She’s in a really good mood this morning.

“Julia finally responded,” she says, smiling brightly.

“That’s good right?” I place a soft kiss on top of her forehead. I like it when she smiles. I wish she would do it more.

“Yes. I’ve missed her,” she adds, softly.

“I know,” I say, wrapping my arms around her back and squeezing her tight.

“Sometimes it’s hard to reconcile my life before you two, but I can’t lose that part of me either,” she amends.

Now it’s my turn to smile. “You’re too sweet for this world.”

I pull her into our room and she giggles, following me willingly. It’s true. Christina is far too sweet to live in our world. But I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her here.

Forever.

I yank her closer.

“What are you doing?” She laughs.

“Showing you how sweet I think you are, maybe even tasting how sweet you are….”

I inch my way between her thighs and brush over her center through her leggings, intentionally missing the place she is usually so desperate for me to touch.
