Cheyanne

Chandler had a new private jet. The cream and brown interior and leather seats was an upgrade to the one we’d been taking since I’d first started working for him.

“This is nice,” I complimented as we sat down.

“Are you finally impressed?”

I smiled and shook my head. There wasn’t too much that Chandler could do materialistically that would surprise me. I’d dealt with family and men with money all my life. He seemed to always be so surprised by how little things like this fazed me. I understood that. For the average woman, being on a private jet with a millionaire would have been a thrill. For me, it was the opposite of what would impress and turn me on.

Physically, Chandler was perfect. He was my type from his looks to his style of dress. I would never tell him, but I loved his personality too. We had more in common than he realized. Unfortunately, the men I’d dealt with of Chandler’s caliber—financially and socially—had all been hard lessons in what I didn’t want in a man. So, as much as he flirted, I always shut him down.

Besides, I loved being his executive assistant and didn’t want to ruin that. I didn’t have to work, but what I did with him made me feel fulfilled. Not just because I was helping him and his thriving business, but because I believed in what he was doing. Sure, it was a hell of a payoff for him every time he sold a business he’d acquired, but he also took the stress of a failing business from someone and gave them enough money to retire and never have to work a day in their life if they didn’t want to. I admired and respected Chandler more than he would ever know, and it had nothing to do with a jet or his money for that matter.

“One of these days, I’m going to do something that’s going to completely knock you off your feet,” Chandler said, more to himself than me.

“I already admire and respect you, Mr. Jones. You don’t have to impress me with stuff like this.”

“Chandler,” he insisted, like always. “And thank you for that. It makes me happy to know you admire and respect me.” When his lips lifted into a devilish grin, I knew he was about to say something silly. “I want you to love and want me too, though.”

Thankfully, the flight attendant and pilots came to introduce themselves. After the pilots retreated, the flight attendant asked us if we wanted anything to drink before takeoff. We both opted for champagne. I checked both our business phones to make sure we didn’t have any calls, texts, or emails that would need a response before we were in the air.

“None of that,” Chandler said, taking the phone from my hand and lap. “We’re not working until it’s time for the meeting.”

“Well, you might not be working, but I’m always working.”

“Not on this trip. I want you to relax. We’ve been going like crazy trying to secure this deal with Ikeman. You deserve as much of a break as I do.”

That was true, so I wouldn’t argue with him. Sometimes, business owners didn’t want to sell, even though they knew that was for the best. Whether it was pride or sentimental reasons, it could make the process take longer than it should. Most times, Chandler would pull back and allow them to come to him, but if he felt a person needed to be wooed and the investment was worth it, he’d put forth more effort.

The flight attendant returned with our champagne.

“Let’s toast,” Chandler suggested, lifting his mini flute in my direction.

“To what?”

“Us having an amazing trip.”

“And to you securing your very first health spa. Claiming it for you in advance.”

Our glasses clinked before we sipped the champagne. For some reason, his eyes locked on mine made me smile. I spent so much time with this man, I shouldn’t be affected by his eyes, but I was. They were tight, dark, and alluring. There weren’t too many times I could look into them for seconds on end and not blush.

We took off not long after, and I was grateful for the nonstop flight to Cali. I managed to get a nap in, but it wasn’t long enough to do anything but make me drowsy once we arrived. As we got into the town car that awaited us, I asked Chandler, “All right, what do you have planned?”

“Why do you think I have something planned?” he replied, sitting next to me.

“You always do.”

“It’s a surprise.”

With a groan, I sat back in my seat. It wouldn’t do me any good to question him about it, because he wouldn’t tell me. No matter how much I told Chandler it wasn’t necessary, he always took me somewhere on our trips and treated me. I appreciated how committed he was to showing me how much he valued me. I could honestly say no man or employer had ever spoiled me the way Chandler did.

It took us about fifteen minutes to get to the hotel, and when we did, we were checked into a presidential suite.

Chandler carried our bags up because he was ever the gentleman. I wanted to question how he was single, but I knew his schedule and believed that was a part of it. His days were long, and he spent so much time traveling. I’d been groomed by my parents before I even realized what it was to prepare for my husband with wealth to never be home, expect me to be the picture of perfection, and cheat if and when he felt like it.

“Do you think your wife will be okay with me traveling with you all the time?” I asked.

His head jerked slightly before he looked down at me skeptically. The low chuckle he released made me smile. “That was random.”
