“Oh, yeah. It is,” I mumbled.

After they both hugged me, they left, and I’d barely caught my breath before I heard his voice.

“Y’all look alike,” he observed.

“Same mom and dad,” I replied.

“How’d they get into the building?”

“Um, Memphis has a spare key to the boutique and knows the alarm code. I’d forgotten about that.”

“Hmm.”

“Hmm, what?”

“Nothing. You better call your father now.”

“I was just about to, Warden.”

He grinned as I grabbed my phone.

“Got damn! The fuck do you want?!” I growled into the phone. “You’ve been calling all damn day since you left here! Been blowing my phone up like a motherfucker!”

“Because I need to know what the hell you’re doing with my little sister!” Memphis growled back.

“Why the fuck would that be your business?”

“Because I know you! I know what you are!”

“You mean what we are? Last time I checked, we were in the same business, coworker.”

“Does she know what we do for a living?!”

“You mean, did I blow your cover? Hell no. You know I wouldn’t do that. I do have some scruples. She don’t know what I do either…yet.”

“Yet?! You better not ever tell her!”

“She’s my woman. I’ma have to tell her eventually.”

“How did you meet her?”

“I told you how.”

“Okay, why did you meet her?”

I didn’t answer.

“Oh my god! Who?!” she yelled.

“I don’t know yet.”

“Why the fuck didn’t you tell me about this?! I had a right to know!”

“Because I’m handling it.”

“By fucking her?!”

“Not yet.”
