“That can’t be healthy.”

“You worried about my health, baby?”

“How old are you?”

I smiled. “So, you can ask questions, but you can’t answer them?”

“I’m concerned about having to lug your body down those stairs if you die from exhaustion.”

I chuckled. “I see. I’m twenty-nine.”

“Wow.”

“Wow, what?”

“Wow, I’m being controlled by a damn child. I’m forty-two!”

“I ain’t no child, Lilith. Best believe that. I’m sure I’ve done and seen more than you could ever imagine in your lifetime.”

“That’s true. I haven’t killed anyone.”

“Hmm, but you spent years with another woman’s husband.”

I heard her move, and the lamp popped on.

She sat up on the side of the bed, her eyes narrowed as she roared, “I don’t care how much research you’ve done or think you’ve done on me and my life; you don’t know shit about me! Keep your mouth off things that don’t concern you!”

I had definitely hit a nerve.

“Touchy subject? Why’d you finally leave that nice house of his?” I prodded.

“Why’d you leave hell? Or were you evicted?” she retorted.

“I’m on vacation. I’m going back.”

“Next time, I hope you stay.”

I laughed. “So…why did you stay? You liked being a side chick?”

“Shut the fuck up!”

“Okay, okay. I’ll stop. Just know that you’re cute when you’re mad.”

“And you’re ugly, fucking hideous. At all times.”

“Now, Lilith. Why would you lie like that? You’ve been drooling over me for days.”

Her mouth dropped open.

“And I’ve been drooling over you, too, with your sexy ass,” I admitted. “That booty? Got damn!”

“Would you just shut the fuck up?!” she yelled.

“Yep.”

She gave me a confused look.

In turn, I gave her a smile. “See, you do have some control.”
