“So, we’re not going to think of the badshit. What do you think, boy or girl?”

“I don’t care, but I’d love for them to berunning in our yard, or around this shop.” Eloise laughed and Dorothy joined in.

“You know, I might even remember some ofthose sewing classes Momtaught us, and make a little romper. He or she would be socute.”

They both laughed.

“You know, if anything, Beau being anasshole has reminded us to be close,” Eloise said.

“No, he’s not reminded us, Eloise. We’vealways been close.” Dorothy kissed her cheek.

“Still, I think you should go as the sexynurse. I’m thinking of making an elephant costume.”

Dorothy tutted. “Not happening. However, Iwill go to the party asa sexy dead nurse, if you come with me.”

“You want your pregnant, highly emotionalsister to come to aparty with you?”

“Yeah, and we’ll put lots of mascaraon you. Even if it runs and youlook a little crazy, you will fit right in,” Dorothysaid.

Eloise shook her head and took a deepbreath. “I hate that it sounds like fun.”

“You know, one day, we’re going to turn allof your hates into loves.” Dorothy kissed her cheek.

Beau waited outside Eloise’s home. He’dnot gotten out of histruck, even though he turned the engine off. Tapping his fingers onthe steering wheel, he stared straight ahead and hoped for someclarity, for anything.

“Do I need to call the cops?” Wendy asked, suddenly appearing near his window.

He glanced past her shoulder and lookedstraight toward the house.

Earlier, Rose had said a whole bunch ofthings to him, and a fewof them had struck a chord within him. Actually, she’d spent thewhole time shouting at him, which he accepted. He’d acted like adick, and he was putting it mildly, according to what Rose had toldhim.

“If you don’t get your head out of yourignorant ass, you know you’re going to lose the woman youlove.”

“I don’t love Eloise.”

“You don’t? I call bullshit. I know you,Beau, and you don’t go sneaking around with someone you don’t evenlike, or do what you’ve done.” She growled with frustration. “Youknow what, fine. You don’t love Eloise. She was just someone tohave fun with. What about your child? The one thing we can agree onis that the child Eloise is carrying is yours. There is no way shecheated on you with any guy. You’ve got to at least admit to that. So, is that child going to be running around No Wolves Road withouta daddy? Are you going to allow that? Because if you don’t mendthis shit with Eloise, then you’re never going to get the chance tobe that baby’s father.”

He’d gladly ignored her, because he couldlive with that. That’s what he told himself.

“Or maybe it is better this way. He’ll get a stepdad and you’ll be able to see someone else enjoying your kidand your mate.”

Rose had left before the beast within himcame forth. His officewas trashed. The rage he felt at another man touching Eloise, ofbeing near his woman, his child, he just couldn’t stand thethought. He normally had perfect control over his wolf. This wasthe first time he’d not been able to stop his reactions, and hedidn’t like it.

“You don’t need to call the cops,” Beausaid.

“Then lurking or stalking, or whatever coolwords you wolves are calling it nowadays, isn’t funny,” Wendy said.

He looked at Wendy and then back toward thehouse, wondering if Eloise knew he was outside.

“How is she?” he asked.

She folded her arms across her breasts.

“I’m not here to cause trouble, I just … Iwant to know how she is.”

“She’s … coping. It’s hard for her, youknow. You were her first and only boyfriend. I’ve never knownEloise to be so smitten with a guy that she’d sneak around formonths just to be with him.”
