“Okay, well, when were you going to tell methat you had fallen for Mister Rough and Mature?”

“Actually, Beau is known for being nasty, and trust me, I got to see that nasty side of him yesterday.”

She pulled out of the house and began totravel back to wheretheir mother had opened the launderette and thehaberdashery.

“Yeah, he does seem like a bit of anasshole.”

Eloise couldn’t help but laugh.

“How are you feeling?” Dorothy asked. “Iknow that couldn’t have been easy for you.”

“I’m fine. I will be fine.”

“Do you think you’re going to be okay withjust fine?”

She took a deep breath. “Yeah, I’m goingto have to be okay with it.”

Eloise didn’t know how she was going to beable to handle a pregnancy, on top of the pain of losing the manshe loved.

She didn’t want to admit she loved Beau, butthe truth was, she had fallen for him at the bar when she first methim. It was why she couldn’t stop thinking about him, nor did shewant to stop thinking about him.

Why had her life gotten so freakinghard?

The pack was not happy.

They had felt the call to protect Eloise.Rose had felt it as well.

Eloise was pregnant with his child.

He poured himself a large whiskeyand tossed the wholething back quickly. The burn did nothing to soothe his soul. Allthe accusations he’d thrown at her came rushing back.

“You’re drinking,” Rose said, coming intothe kitchen.

“I’m thinking, and I would appreciate it ifI could do it in private.”

“Don’t mind me, but I thought you’d like toknow that Eloise’s mom is in the driveway,” Rose said.

Beau hadn’t met Wendy. He knew of her, andhe got to his feet, moving through the house and stepping out thefront door.

Wendy was standing by her truck. She’d pulled her jacketaround herself, and he saw both girls within the woman. Wendy wasbeautiful, even though she was not smiling at him. It had startedto snow a couple of hours ago. At first, it hadn’t set, but now itwas starting to set.

“Mrs. Richards,” he said.

Wendy looked at him and then glanced towardRose. “Is she your mate?”

“No, Wendy, I’m not his mate, or his wife.I’m just a member of his pack.” Rose shoved her hands into the pockets of hersweatpants.

“What can I do for you?” Beau asked.

“Well, for starters, you could tell me howI am supposed to take care of my daughter who is carrying your wolf baby. If youdon’t want to believe she’s pregnant with your child, that is onyour ignorant ass, but I need to know what she needs. Is thepregnancy like a human one? What can I expect?”

Beau stared at her and the silence wasalmost deafening.

“I don’t know,” he said.

He felt Rose’s gaze on his as well.
