“Yes, boss?”

“What exactly was it that you were trying to prove?”

I give him a curious look. “With Carla? I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—”

“With that text.” His tone is clipped. I’m not imagining the tension, I hear it in his voice. But what is he talking about?

“Sorry?”

“The text, Nadia.” His gaze drills holes into my eyes, and I can’t think straight.

“What text?”

I freeze, remembering that draft in my phone. Wait, I didn’t send that. With trembling hands, I manage to take my phone out from my jeans pocket and look into my message folders. The drafts folder is empty. But the sent folder—OH, SHIT.

“Nadia.”

“It must be a mistake, I didn’t—"

“Remember, I don’t take kindly to liars.”

“This is a mistake, I just—”

“What did I just say?” he snaps.

I remain still and breathless, heat spreading through my core as I watch him get up from his seat with a dark look on his face. “No lies,” I mumble, then inhale deeply. “Okay. Let me try again.”

“Please, I’m all ears.”

“Carlawas exceptionally territorial and verbally aggressive. I decided to piss her off, hoping it would shut her up and get her off my back. That was it.”

“Yeah, I figured out that much. I’m talking about that text you just sent me.”

There’s no way I’m walking out of this unscathed. I might as well face it. “I’m sorry,” I say with a heavy, tremorous sigh. “I wasn’t supposed to send you that. My phone slipped, I didn’t—”

“Nadia.”

Okay, he likes saying my name whenever I’m about to digress and distract his attention from the bigger picture. Which, in this case, is an exceptionally raunchy sext I wasn’t even going to send.

“I apologize for that message. It will never happen again,” I mumble, lowering my gaze in shame.

“You disappoint me,” Orion says. He doesn’t sound angry anymore. What the hell is going on? I look up and find him watching me, strange fires burning in his eyes. His expression sends tiny fires burning through my veins, causing my tongue to become quite loose.

“But I admit, there were personal ambitions of mine involved in my statement.”

“Such as?”

“Such as me wanting to …” My brain isn’t functioning anymore. Orion keeps getting closer, one step at a time. His musky cologne crosses the threshold and fills my senses. All I can do is breathe him in and let this shameless fire consume my loins as I surrender to the truth. His dark eyes are glued to mine. “Me wanting to be with you.”

“Just me?”

I shrug, my cheeks burning. “Well, no. The three of you. I’m told you’re more of a … package deal.”

“Do you want it?”

“Do I want what?” I stupidly ask. I’ve got one brain cell left, and it’s doing somersaults in my head at this point.

Orion smiles briefly and reaches me with one last step. “You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into, do you?” he asks. I can’t say a word. I’m paralyzed, lost in the depths of his smoldering gaze, my lips slowly parted and my core aching for him. “You’re trouble, Nadia. And the fact that you’re asking for this only makes you that much more dangerous. I think we need to do something about that.”
