"You don't need to thank me," he replied, sincerity coloring his words. "I care about you."

My shoulders slumped, a sigh escaping my lips. "I have to work tomorrow. I can't keep being the coffee runner."

Sliding off Oliver's lap, I returned to my previous spot.

"Work for me," Oliver offered, his tone determined. "We can find a role for you. We're always expanding."

I shook my head, worry creasing my brow. "What would your staff think if I joined? They'd speculate about favoritism because of us being together."

"It's none of their concern," Oliver stated firmly. "I'm the boss. I can hire whomever I choose."

I sighed, frustration edging into my voice. "True, but that won't stop the gossip. I've seen it in my own workplace."

"Do you care what they say?" Oliver questioned, his gaze unwavering.

"It would bother me," I admitted reluctantly.

"Then we'll keep it discreet," Oliver decided. "Does that mean you want to be exclusive with me?"

"Do you?" I countered, my heart pounding in my chest.

Oliver's expression softened, his eyes reflecting his sincerity. “Don’t ask a question with a question. Do you?”

I played with a lock of my hair. "I still don't understand why you want me."

"You don't need to understand," I replied softly. "Just know that I do. You're everything I've ever wanted, and I've waited a lifetime to find you. I'm not letting you slip away."

Chapter 8

I’ve been dating Oliver officially for two weeks. I still hate my job and I’ve seriously been considering a position at Fox Asset Corporation. We haven’t slept together yet, and it’s killing me to be so near him without having sex. I’ve spent evenings in his bed and he in mine, but it’s never gone farther than Oliver getting me off with his fingers. He has incredible control and, frankly, some set of blue balls.

We’ll spend the Fourth of July holiday at Oliver’s house in Southampton since Sadie is going away with Dan to Rhode Island. His home is huge, and I wonder why someone who has no family needs a house with seven bedrooms.

My boss gave us a reprieve, letting us leave at 2 p.m. I’m glad because any time I can escape her is a plus. She still treats me like I’m an idiot, and my biggest tasks are filing and entering data.

My plan is to go home, get changed, and take a nap before Oliver arrives with Chinese food for dinner. Since he hates driving in traffic, we won’t leave until 11 p.m. By the time he arrived, looking delicious in khaki shorts and a blue polo shirt, I’m starving.

“I come bearing gifts, and I get no kiss,” he said as he sat down at the table.

I put down the glass I’m washing and kiss him hard on the lips. Oliver pressed his body to mine, running his hand down my back to cup my ass. He caressed my tongue with his own, and my core started to flood. I’m getting sick of changing my wet panties and wiggled out of his grasp.

His expression is one of humor. “What’s the matter?”

I rolled my eyes. “Don’t get me started. Let’s just eat and relax before we leave.”

Oliver rose from the chair. “Let’s go.”

I raised my eyebrows. “Go where? I thought you didn’t want to leave now.”

“I don’t want to leave right now. I want to make love to you.”

I gasped. “Don’t tease me.”

Oliver took my hand, leading me into my bedroom.

I pulled back on his hand. “No. Seriously? Why now?”

He shook his head. “I can’t win with you. You want sex, and now you don’t?”
