Scooting away from me.

“Blair,” so I lean over, crawling after her. I won’t let her escape. This time, no one’s leaving. We’re doing this. “It’s okay, baby. I mean it. I want this for us. I want us to try.”

Her silver eyes get so wide. “But what if you hate me?”

“I’ll never hate you. Prank you, yes. Fuck you, please. Date you; it’d be my honor. Get pissed as hell when you fill my Golden Oreos with toothpaste again. Damn, right. But baby, I’ll never hate you.”

Tears fill her gorgeous eyes. “You will, Beau. I know you’re the best. I know you’re a winner, but everyone loses a game or two, and what if you lose them because of me? Because I’m a distraction?”

I keep coming for her, and she falls back, her raven hair fanning over my white pillow. I trap her between my locked arms, my nose nuzzling hers.

She’s not going anywhere.

“Blair, I’m not your dad, and you’re not a distraction. Maybe everyone’s been wrong, including me. Maybe the only way I’ll ever win and the only way I’ll never lose is if you’re with me. If you’re mine.”

Her tear escapes and I kiss her temple, catching it.

“Where is all this coming from?” She doesn’t trust me yet, and I get it. We all have wounds one kiss can’t heal. “Months ago, this wasn’t you. You said one night only for a reason, Beau, and I understood. I want you to have your dream.”

“Exactly.” Softly, I kiss her lips. “You understand me. You want me to have my dream, like I want you to have yours, and my dream involves you, Blair. I don’t know the rest. I can’t control it. But Colt smacked my head enough to make me realize I can control this.” I kiss her again and again until she kisses me back. “Say yes, Blair. Give us a shot.”

“But Colt?” She worries. “You love him. You need to be with him.”

“Yeah, I do. I’ve kinda had my head smacked about that, too. I need him like I need you. I don’t know where he ends and you begin in my heart. You’re both just there. I’m just made that way.”

She reaches up, touching my lips like she can’t fathom my words. “But how? How can you be with us when you said you can’t be with anyone? Not now. Not when you’re at the top of your career. Beau, I understand. I know how hard you’ve worked and all you’ve sacrificed. I know what football means to you. I won’t take it away.”

This is the reason I can’t breathe. This is why I’m scared. This is the feeling I didn’t expect to hit me this hard, this fast.

This is why I love Blair Monroe. Always have. Always will.

And this is the part I fear will freak her out.

But I can’t imagine a life without her.

“Come live with me,” I urge. “Come live with me and Colt. In Atlanta. For the year. Let’s try and make it work. That’s how we’ll have football and each other.”

In a whirl, Blair tackles me. With my heart in my hand, I’m caught off guard while she flips me over, straddling my waist.

“Live with you? Is this a fucking joke?”

I laugh because, yeah, it’d be a good one.

“No, baby, it ain’t a joke. I’m as serious as my seven thousand-square-foot home. I’ve got plenty of room for you and your alien romances. You can have my office and all my bookshelves. Hell, I even have a telescope on my bedroom balcony for you to find more alien lovers.”

“So, I’m just supposed to give up my life to be your WAG?”

“WAG?” I snort. “What alien snatched you? Since when do you talk like that?”

“Since my sister told me that’s what I’d be. And Jace, too. If I’m your girlfriend, I’ll be stalked and dragged and trolled and?—”

I cup her cheek. “If you don’t want my bullshit life, I understand.”

Though it will kill me. Though I don’t want another Valentine’s without her. I never want to let Blair go again, but I won’t trap her in hell with me.

“Beau.” She sits up, breath-taking, topless, sparkling with dusty pink glitter. She’s on my naked dick that soars for her while my heart threatens to drop. I can’t lose her. “It’s not bullshit,” she says. “The press and fans are part of your life, and I get it. It’s not your fault. You’ve earned your success.”

“Then let me spoil you with it. I can protect you some and keep you out of the limelight. You don’t have to come to my games and?—”
