Watching them together is everything I want, but not like this. I don’t want to trick her. I don’t want a joke. I want everything to be real and right with her. With him. With us.

“Come here, Kitten.” I leap, hooking my arm around Blair’s waist, snatching her body off his. “We need to talk.”

“But… ”

I don’t know who stammers it first.

Her? Colt? They’re both shocked by my reaction, and I don’t care. I can’t stop it. I’m a fucking caveman, and this isn’t about jealousy. It’s about survival.

“I need my woman for a minute,” I explain, taking it back to my prehistoric roots by slinging Blair over my shoulder.

Colt starts laughing while she squeals. “What the fuck, Beau? Put me down!”

But I go full Cro-Magnon. I slap her ass. Not hard. Just enough to stake my claim. “Never, woman. I’m never putting you down.”

“Y’all go settle the score now!” Colt calls out as I stomp away.

He gets it. I can hear it.

But Blair?

She dangles over my back, smacking my naked ass back. “You wanna play, Bronson?”

So I smack hers again. “You’re the one with a furry plug in her ass.”

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

“You tinkle like a little princess.”

BEAU

Ibarge us through the open living room, down the breezeway to my bedroom door, and I win an Oscar. I kick it open—not that it was shut—I’m just committed to the barbaric performance.

Blair shrieks, “Have you lost your jealous mind?”

“I’m not jealous.” I toss her on my bed. She lands with a bounce, her bare breasts and rouged nipples adding to the primal spectacle. “If you want Colt, too, baby, you know I’m game,” I tell her. “But this is about me and you first.”

She jolts to her knees, her fists on her waist. “What about us? There is no us. We’re fake. Remember?”

“There is an us.” I rule. “There always was an us, and there always will be. The bet is over, Blair. You won, and I’m for real.”

“Real about what, Beau?” There’s no light in her eyes, only sparks of fear. “Real about how you’re the hottest quarterback and everyone, especially the media, wants you? Or how you want the Super Bowl so bad, you won’t stop until you win? Or how it’s your dream? You love football and no one can be a distraction? No one gets in the way.”

“No, Blair.” I grab my chest, my pounding heart. “You’re right here. You get in the way, and I want you to because you’re my dream. I want you to be my girlfriend. For real.”

Send a rescue chopper.

Blair Monroe is speechless.

Her brain blitzes. Her breath stops. Blinks are her only sign of life.

“Say something.” I stand at the edge of the bed, my heart clenching at the sight. “Say yes.”

“But… but…” she stammers. “But you don’t do girlfriends, and I don’t do love.”

“There’s a first time for everything. It’s like you said—never say never. We always change.”

Like I struck her dumb, she plops back on her pink-tailed ass. It’s cute until she starts scooting toward my headboard.
