Nope, he wanted to keep it secret.

If I wasn’t so devoted to Spence and Carter, I would be way more dedicated to my company. Instead, I spent so much time trying to keep their heads on straight, I only made a fraction of what I should be with my passion project.

My phone suddenly blew up with so many texts that I barely noticed Spence coming out of Mr. Peterson’s office.

“Everything okay?” Spence asked as he punched my shoulder.

“Shouldn’t I be the one asking that?”

He literally just had a one-on-one with the team owner, which was never a good thing. Granted, we all knew that Mr. Peterson didn’t interfere with the team too much, although he was an active owner. He was always in the locker room and being a father figure to many of the guys.

It was still never good news to be pulled into his office. Yet Spence was smiling and seemed to be pretty damn carefree.

With that, we made our way out to the parking lot so we could go home. He said, “All’s good. Don’t tell me something else went viral in the last five minutes.”

“Nooo.” I looked up from my phone since I needed a break. “Who told your new teammates that I would be their concierge service?”

Spence looked away and was giving me his best impression of being innocent. Which was the exact moment that I knew it had to be both of them. Spence would protect Carter at all costs.

So I pulled out the big guns and flashed the “mom” look. Don’t ask me why, but if I looked at him all disappointed with just a little bit of scorn, he would always tell me the truth.

“We might have said something about how awesome you are at simplifying our lives.”

“Why can’t you and Carter get it through your thick skulls that I’m a social media specialist? I’m not a personal assistant.”

He wrapped his arm around my neck in a far too familiar hold for just friends. It was moments like this when I wanted to believe that Spence would see me as more than his best friend's little sister or even just his personal assistant.

"Now, now, Nat. I see you for exactly who you are. Yes, you make sure that I don't starve, but that's not the reason I wanted you to be sitting beside me today. It's because you run what for me?"

He was right. Unlike my brother, he really did use me to manage his social media accounts to a degree, but he wouldn’t really let me show off everything I would like to. Hell, he was my best-paying client, refusing to actually pay attention to my pricing structure.

He kept looking down at me with those whiskey-colored eyes. He was going to make me say it out loud what I did for him. So I muttered, "Social media."

"Yup, and I made sure that Scuba knew that too. But he needs someone to help get him settled first. Besides, how hard can it be to order a few extra meals and get to know the town?"

More work than Spence knew, judging by the series of texts from Scuba. It was crazy. There was everything from restaurant reservations to getting new furniture to a rec for a place to get a sports massage. But after working with hockey player and knowing that they had masseuses on staff, so he was more looking for a happy ending…

That last request was the grossest. Why did guys insist upon turning everything so damn sexual? I knew some great masseuses, but none of them would even think about giving a happy ending.

By the time we made our way through the rink’s corridor maze, I was basically caught up on all the texts from Scuba.

Spence walked straight to my driver's side, making me think that he wanted to drive. So I tossed him my keys and headed to the passenger side. Before he started the car, he looked me straight in the eye with that mix of laughter and determination. "What do you say about me treating you to dinner tonight since you got me out of trouble with the Legacy?"

I shrugged and shook my head. I didn't need any sort of dinner. "I didn't do anything, but I can’t stay out too late since I have plans with the girls tonight."

"Yes, you did. Your ideas were better, and I think you're right about the direction of the social media campaign. We can do so much more if it becomes a social media series to spotlight shelters and show how I'm not a complete twat."

It was a small suggestion, but he was right. Mine was more about true image repair. Spence reached over and held my hand.

When he did stuff like that he confused me. Did he like me, too? Or was I just Carter's little sister?

Chapter 6

Spencer

Inever should have grabbed Natalie's hand or given Scuba her number.

Despite my eyes being on the road, it was impossible not to see the flurry of text notifications popping up on the console. It was completely unrelenting.
