Carter put his fingers in his ears. "La la la."

I shouted over my shoulder as hip hop music blasted through the gym. Not the worst music, so I went with it. "He can't bear to hear anything about sex with her, but if you touch her, you have to deal with me."

I wasn't too proud to admit that I protected her like my own little sister. It had nothing to do with the fact that she was Carter’s little sister. It was all about my feelings for her and how she got drugged at a college party that I was at. Since then, I've beat myself up for not protecting her. Since that night, I haven't let anyone mess with my Natalie.

Okay, I wasn't that much of an asshole. If she told me she wanted to date a guy, I would let it happen as long as it wasn't a hockey guy. Thankfully, she seemed to like doctors and accountants. Guys who weren't totally players. But she'd been having a dry spell lately.

Scuba laughed and went into position to spot Levine. "Don't worry. I don't mess with teammates’ little sisters. It always gets messy."

Carter slapped Scuba's shoulder. "Let's just keep it that way, and we won't have a problem."

Chapter 4

Spencer

After working out, I saw there was a text from Natalie that the two of us were to meet with the Legacy's PR department about my statement.

Tossing my keys at Carmie, I said, "Wish me luck with the PR team."

He caught the keys with his left hand and looked at me with concern. "Are you sure? I can hang around if you want."

"Nah. Go home. I can make my way home afterward."

I also looked to see if there was any word from my agent. There were always rumors that they were trying to trade me, which was why I would work my ass off. If things were as bad as Nat said, then instead of trying to trade me, they could want to drop me altogether.

Thankfully, the radio was still silent on that front.

I punched the button for the elevator up to the conference room.

There was Natalie, barely looking like the girl I worked with on a daily basis to keep my life together. Instead of her messy bun and athletic-inspired wear, she looked like someone who knew how to work in the corporate world. She wore a pressed suit, and her hair was down and neat as a pin. It made me think all sorts of naughty thoughts.

Dude, she's Carmie's sister. You can't even think about pulling her hair and getting it all tousled.

I hated those stray thoughts, and it seemed like they were getting more common. If Natalie kept dressing like that, I would be walking around with a semi even more than I already did.

Across from Natalie was one of the PR reps. Only one of them, so the Legacy wasn't in full-blown rehabilitation mode. I sat next to my girl and said, "Hi, Eileen. How's it going?"

"Not too bad." She gave me one of those saccharine smiles that I hated. Just be real with me. But I knew her life was all about getting followers and being tactful. "I'm glad that you wrote such a genuine statement, but I still want a little bit more."

I sighed, but I knew I didn't really have a leg to stand on to defy her wishes.

Natalie was the first to speak, "What are you talking about? You already know we're pushing things by going public with his charitable work."

Eileen held up a hand. "I know, but the perception is that Spencer is a misogynist. No one is going to believe he's reformed without seeing some action for themselves. Which is why we want you to work with the shelters and have the team film you working there.”

I looked at Natalie.

This sort of thing was something I would always defer to Nat's expertise. She nodded. "This isn't a terrible idea, but at the same time, we will have to be careful to do it right. There could be some backlash for him jumping straight into a shelter. I would love for it to be a series. Showing off his interest in the charity and why he works with them. It can’t be just one visit.”

Chapter 5

Natalie

The meeting with PR was a best-case scenario. We had a solid plan to repair Spence’s image. It was still a long shot. Once a player got that problematic label, it was like a tattoo.

If only Spence was considered to be a lovable troll. Then his outburst wouldn’t have blown up the way that it did. Okay, people would still hate him, but he wasn’t an asshole.

Hell, what would have been better was for Spence to show off his charitable side years ago. But he wouldn’t listen to Cart’s little sister about sharing his charitable side. Didn’t matter that I studied PR and had my social media PR firm.
