Chapter 22

Natalie

As I walked through Carter's place, I sighed.

The home was completely a wreck, and it seemed like some of the supplies that had been at the site were now gone. I just hoped that the previous construction team picked up their tools and they weren't stolen, but given all the issues this project has had, I wasn't so sure.

I Facetimed my brother.

Thankfully, he picked up and had his all-star smile. "How's it looking?"

I flipped the camera so he could see the state of his kitchen. Complete with the torn-up floor and missing appliances. There was no way he could move into the house by the end of the month.

He sighed all grumpy-like, and I flipped the camera back around so it could face me.

"Well, remember, we're meeting your new contractor today. So hopefully, we can get things on track."

Then, there was a knock on the door. I carefully made my way to the front to let the new guy in.

On the other side of the door was a guy who reminded me of Bob Villa. It was crazy to see a guy who had a tool belt on, with a beard and flannel. However I had to remember that this was the guy who finished up Siobhan's renovations and got the work done in half the time as the last guy.

I leaned over and held out my free hand. "Hi, I'm Natalie, and this is my brother, Carter."

"Thomas Morrison," he said with a firm handshake. "Let's see what kind of work that we need to do."

I led him through the house while Carter said, "I'm glad that you're willing to take on this project. I really need my house back. The hockey season is so damn long, and I want to go home to my place at the end of the night. Did Nat send you all the details and the specs? I don't want anything crazy."

"Yes, she sent over everything." We got to the kitchen. Thomas whistled and said, "Damn, you got fleeced. Why did they take up the underfloor heating?"

"Supposedly, it was broken. Instead, they just stole the components and walked off the site." I sighed. "After a few delays of saying they needed to finish another person's house while they waited for parts, even though, as you can see, I have the new floor right here."

"And you said you have all the new cabinets and appliances already ordered, and it's more just reconnecting the plumbing and electric?"

"Yes," Carter said. "We have everything on order. Nat, don't forget to show him the bathroom; that's where the real mess is."

That annoyed me. While I didn't love being seen as a personal assistant, I never forgot a single task that the guys wanted. "Of course. What do you take me for, big brother?"

I led the way up to the primary bathroom. This room was taken to the studs. This room looked nothing like the plans.

Thomas said, "Well, at least we can build this out. As long as the permits are up to date, my team can get this done on your timeline."

"Great. You're hired," Carter said.

"Cool. I'll work with Natalie and get a timeline started."

I nodded. Thomas headed downstairs. I was about to hang up the phone when Carter said, "Don't hang up just yet. We need to have a chat about Spencer."

Oh lord. I didn't need this conversation.

Instead, I put on my fakest smile. "What's the issue?"

"He's all moody this road trip. You two need to sext."

My jaw dropped, and I hung up the phone. I was not going to have this conversation with him. It was a level of ick that I couldn't handle right now.
