"Come on, let's get you ready."

Clarissa

The morning without PK was pretty uneventful. She spent it alternating between playing with Nathan and pretending to get work done while she wondered what was going on with PK. When was he going to want to pick up Nathan?

Since they were so busy holding Nathan last night, it never dawned on her that they would need to get him a leash. Now, it was time for him to do a morning walk and they didn't have any sort of lead. So it meant going out on the small patio so he could at least pee.

She just opened up the doors to the patio and let Nathan slide out, when there was a persistent knock on her door. If she had to guess, it would be her annoying neighbor. Although, he proved that he wasn't so annoying last night. She looked back to see if Nathan was okay on the tiny patio. There was glass fencing all around, so it wasn't like he was going to fall to his death or something.

The pounding continued. Not helping her mood, the pounding was exacerbating her headache. "Hold your horses!"

She opened up the door to see a sweaty PK standing in front of her. He’d clearly come straight from the gym. The workout shirt clung to his torso, and his arm muscles were on display. If she wasn't so annoyed by his knocking, she might have drooled over his body.

He smirked. "Oh, someone isn't in a good mood."

"What do you want?" She should have known the guy would feel some schadenfreude and enjoy the fact that she was hung over. Just watch, he’ll decide to play his drums all afternoon.

"Came to pick up Nathan and see if you wanted to go shopping to get supplies for the little guy."

He actually sounded excited to go shopping. Which she hadn't expected. Most of the guys she knew couldn't stand to go shopping. It was almost refreshing.

She crossed her arms over her chest, which she hoped made her a little more formidable but probably just put her cleavage on display. "Are you sure it's a good idea to take him out to the store when he's on the antibiotic?"

"You heard the vet last night: he's healthy aside from the infection and he needs to socialize as much as he can." He was so cocky, but he was right, the vet did say that. His smirk softened. "So what do you say? Let's go shopping and have some fun together. If it's awful, I'll buy drinks and maybe even let you take a shot at me."

When he put it like that, it was hard to say no. "Alright, but it's on your dime."

She opened the patio door, and Nathan came straight for PK. She was amused by how much Nathan seemed to like PK, but she couldn't help feeling slightly betrayed by the pup. She was the one who held and petted him for hours. But the pup kept choosing PK over her when he was ready to lavish attention on someone.

PK picked up the puppy and snuggled up against him. Nathan squirmed in his arms as he tried to give PK kisses all over. His smile was priceless. She wished she could make him smile like that every single day. It was sexy.

She chided herself for thinking he was sexy. PK was seriously annoying, and she shouldn't be falling for him. He would be on her nerves all the time. But she couldn't get Fitzy's words out of her mind, that it was because they should bang it out. The idea of banging him seemed like fun, since she was sure he was a professional at sex.

"What's that smile for?" PK asked.

"Nothing." She turned away, not wanting to engage with PK about why she was smiling. "I just need to grab my purse."

She ran upstairs to her bedroom for the item. She also ran into the bathroom to splash some cool water over her face. She needed to chill if she was going to spend the day with him.

When she got back downstairs, she noticed PK was on the sofa with the puppy crawling up and down his body. He looked so happy and sexy. She took a breath. She told herself that she was not interested in the hockey player. She couldn't be interested in him.

"Ready?" she asked.

He grabbed the puppy with his huge hands and pushed himself off the sofa. "Yup."

The two of them walked outside to the parking lot. Almost immediately, they went for their respective cars. PK shouted out from beside his SUV. "Come on, Clarissa. You know I have more space for all the goodies. Get your pretty ass over here."

She squinted at him. She hated getting called that. She was more than a pretty body, but he was right. His vehicle had more trunk space and could hold a kennel or two a lot easier than her sedan. So she stomped over to him and got into the passenger seat.

He handed her the puppy and said, "Seems like you need some love from Nate."

She gladly accepted the puppy and gave him some cuddles. PK pulled out of the parking space. The two of them were absolutely silent. It was a little awkward. At least, he was giving her space to calm down.

She asked, "How was your thing in Dallas?"

"Good. Really good." His lips turned upwards, but he was holding tension in his shoulders. He looked her way. "So good that I'm going to need to go on the road with them for a few days. Would it be an issue if you were solo with Nathan while I'm away?"

She continued to flop the dog's ears. "No problem at all. This little guy is adorable. Does that mean your midlife crisis is over?"
