"Peanut butter," PK said with a shrug. "Although, you need a new jar. I can bring mine over if you need it later. But I need to get going."

Then the hockey stud left her condo. Shirtless and all. Between the shirt he’d left behind and Nathan, she was bound to see the guy a little later. Feeling exhausted, she decided to crash out on her couch and cuddle the sleeping puppy. She couldn't believe how much the couch smelled like PK after only one night. That made her feel all the more confused about the dream she had.

Did the dream mean she wanted the asshole that frustrated her so much?

Chapter 5

PK

Getting the call from Coach Berman inviting him to a PTO and practice with the Sound was a dream come true. PK knew it was still a long shot to make the team, but getting the call made it a hell of a lot closer. That would have made his day alone, but seeing Clarissa also tired and fucking adorable made him so hard.

He was glad for the perfect excuse to get out of the condo and not get caught up in just how much he appreciated the way Clarissa looked.

The drive to the practice rink outside of Dallas wasn't bad, but it gave him way too much time to think. He really didn't know what the hell to do about Clarissa. He wanted her so badly, but he didn't stand a chance. Although, there had been times last night when he could have sworn she was flirting with him.

About midway through the drive, he got a call from Scotty. "Tell me it's true."

"What's true?" For some dumb reason, he thought that Scotty was asking about his obsession with Clarissa. But the only person who knew about her was Kai, and even he was in the dark about the latest development.

"Oh, come on. You know what I'm talking about, asshole," Scotty said, slightly exasperated. But that was something PK loved about Scotty. The man knew how to motivate each and every one of the guys on the team. He was gentle with the guys who needed that, but he was blunter with PK. "Are you coming to practice today?"

"Yeah," PK said with a chuckle. "So, what's the deal with Scoops?"

Mika Scooparelli, aka Scoops, got injured in last night's game. The Sound already had a couple of guys who were called up or just in their rookie season. If Scoops was down long-term, the team would be shopping for a defenseman. Of course, they might be wanting to do a trade and capitalize the cap a little bit more, rather than take on PK. While it might hurt his karma numbers, he was hoping that Scoops was going to the long-term injury reserve.

"Broken leg."

PK let out a whistle. That was one of the worst injuries for a hockey player, since it would take him out for most of the season. But that did mean an open spot for PK if he proved himself today. Before Scotty was even tempted to say it, PK said, "So basically there is a spot for the taking if I prove myself."

Scotty chuckled. "Yeah. But if you don’t, there’s a kid from Hamilton that will be called up."

"I hear you loud and clear, mon capitaine."

"Good. So when are you arriving?"

PK spied his GPS's estimated time of arrival on the center console. "About twenty more minutes."

"You aren't wasting any time getting here."

"None at all."

He always liked getting to the rink early. He could shoot the shit with the guys, take his time warming up and putting on his gear. And best of all, if he arrived early enough, Lager wasn't as likely to prank him. Add in the Clarissa factor, he wanted to be at the rink. He needed to clear his head, and the ice was one of the best places to do it.

"See you soon."

It was no surprise that Scotty was already at the rink. It seemed like the guy lived there, especially when he was on the road. When they were in Cleveland, Scotty would spend as much time with his wife and daughter as possible, but the whole family were rink rats.

"Aye."

With that, he punched off the call. It took even less time than before for his mind to go back to how much Clarissa's t-shirt hugged her curves and how damn sexy she looked.

He muttered to himself, "Come on. Get it together. You'll see her later on today. Time to focus on getting your job back."

He paid attention to the last few turns to get to the practice rink. It didn't take long for him to pull into the complex. He didn't have any problems getting in through the gates or anything. He walked in and immediately spotted Scotty.

Straight away, Scotty came up and gave him a hug. "Good to see you."

"Thanks for bringing me in."
