I stare at his hand for a heartbeat, feeling a low hum in my chest. “I can say the same.” I shake his hand. His palm swallows mine whole, and it’s so warm that I feel my body heat up. He takes it a step further and caresses the back of my hand with his thumb.

The feel of his touch is electric, seeping from his skin into mine and simmering in my veins. My body comes alive instantly and my core throbs with the electricity. It’s been a long time since a man made me feel this way. Not even my ex-boyfriend holds a candle to the man in front of me.

“So, Anya, why are you drinking alone in a busy bar?” he asks. He brings his glass to his lips and takes a sip of his drink.

I follow suit and take a sip from my own. I can already feel the alcohol taking control of me. “I had a terrible day. Figured a drink or two might help keep the melancholy at bay.”

He’s still caressing the back of my hand, even after minutes have passed, and I’m so comfortable with his touch that I don’t bother pulling away. “Don’t you have any friends to drink with?”

I shrug, trying to ignore the fluttering in my chest for a second. “I have a lot of friends, but I didn’t want their company tonight.”

My best friend happens to be my cousin, Gianna. She moved to a small town a couple of months ago and life’s been dull without her around. It’s hilarious how she always found Spencer to be suspicious, especially when he refused to introduce me to anyone apart from a few of his friends.

I realized how foolish and naive I had been. All the signs were there, but I had been too blind to see them. I couldn't believe how much of an idiot I had been,

Brandon finally releases my hand and gazes at me with a penetrating stare. "I understand now," he says “Has anyone ever told you how attractive you are?”

I blush. The compliments flow out of him so easily, and they hit me with a strong wave each time. “I’ve heard that a lot. The real question is, has anyone ever told you how handsome you are?”

He smiles, his brow lifting. “You’re the first.”

I give him a knowing look. “We both know that’s a lie.” I’m certain he’s had millions of girls attracted to him. He has the most beautiful smile and piercing brown eyes. He actually reminds me of Spencer a bit, whose smile and eyes looked much like this man's.

I have to stop thinking of that asshole.

I take another swig of my drink until the glass is empty. Brandon hails the waiter and orders another one. “What do you think?” he asks. “Is a negroni better?”

“Surprisingly so.” I’ve had just a glass and I already feel like I’m on top of the clouds. I love the feeling. The only problem is that my self-control is seeping out of me with each passing second. I don’t know how much longer I can hold myself back from ripping Brandon’s clothes off him, and I won’t care who’ll be watching. “Are those your friends?”

He nods.

“Shouldn’t you be with them?” I ask, taking my drink from the waiter.

He cranes his neck to glance at his friends. “They’re fine without me. Trust me on that.” Returning his attention to me.

An idea blooms in my head. Anything for fun. “We could play a game, have some naughty fun together and you forget about going back to your friends tonight..”

He narrows his eyes suspiciously. “What game?”

I bite into my lower lip and grin. “Truth or dare.”

He cocks his head. “Are you sure about that? You may not like the outcome, Anya.”

Good heavens, the way he purrs my name makes my chest tingle. Could this man be any more alluring than he already is?

“Do I look like someone who cares about consequences?” I trace his legs with my toes. “What do you say? Game?”

He looks like he’s considering his options for a moment. “Game.”

Excitement flares in my chest. “Truth or dare.”

“Truth.” I stare at his fingers; there’s clearly no ring, but it doesn’t hurt to know for sure. “Are you married?”

“No. I’m not divorced either.” He smirks as if he wants to tease my curiosity, but he doesn’t. “My turn. Truth or dare?”

“Truth.” I feel like I just set myself up with that one. I know what he’s going to ask.

He doesn’t think before he blurts, “Why did you say you had a terrible day?”
