I rang through and ordered lunch to be served while we got cleaned up and went back to our seats. She was walking a bit on her toes, which I knew meant I had hurt her again, but there were no complaints. I’d packed the numbing cream but didn’t think to leave it in our carry-on. I didn’t know I was going to lose my shit and fuck her into the ether.

I noticed she brought out her devices as soon as we sat down and lunch was served, and figured she was ready to rumble. “What are you doing?” She had the same setup as before. Laptop, phone, and tablet all spread out in front of her. Her eyes were clear, and you couldn’t tell that she’d been selectively mute for the past twenty-four hours.

She dipped her fry in ketchup and mayo, gross, then popped it in her mouth before looking at me with a grin on her face. “Stuff!” Why is she so fucking adorable? Because of that grin, I didn’t care if she was about to start a world war; I’m on her side.

“What kind of stuff?” I cut a piece of salmon and held my fork out to her. She opened her mouth and sneered at the taste of the fish. Her southern palate leaves much to be desired. If it was up to her, she’d eat steak, potatoes, and BBQ every day with a side of French fries.

I’m not sure how she’s kept her body so perfect because she doesn’t like exercise, from what I’ve seen. She’s tiny, like her Mom, while her brothers are all tall and built like their Dad. Good genes I hope she passes on to our daughters. Speaking of daughters.

“Baby, are you on birth control?” She seemed to have to think over my words, and then her eyes widened before going back to normal.

“No, but we’re fine. I don’t think I can have babies, honestly.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Because I’ve been having sex for four years, and it never happened. I mean, I used protection ninety-nine percent of the time, but… I don’t want to talk about it, okay?” Fine; for a minute there, I was beginning to think she didn’t understand the birds and the bees, but now I know she just diverts when she doesn’t want to face the facts.

“Fine, we won’t talk about it.” I married a crazy person. “I’ll just wake you up after the baby is born.”

“What? What are you talking about?”

“I want to breed you on our honeymoon if you’re not already. So, are you on birth control?”

“No, I was, but I stopped after that night. Dammit!” Here we go. I smoothly cut into my fish, and she popped another fry in her mouth rather aggressively, which I chose to ignore. She didn’t realize but I was gauging where her mindset was at. At least, that was part of it. The other part I was very serious about.

She was no longer hurt, as her brothers had said, but she didn’t seem mad either; I don’t know what the hell she was. I wasn’t sure if I should bring it up or not, but as much as I didn’t want her to fall back into that almost catatonic state, I didn’t want there to be anything we couldn’t discuss with each other.

“You want to tell me how you’re feeling about last night?”

“No, not right now.”

“Why not?”

“I’m not dealing with it now. I still have other people to deal with first.” Oh boy!

“Does that mean you plan to deal with your family at some point down the line?”

“What do you think?”

“I wouldn’t know, I don’t know you that well.”

“Really? I thought you knew everything.”

“Funny! Now tell me!”

“Like I said, I’m not thinking about them right now. There’s still Denny and Lacey and Helen and Mitzie.”

“I see; oh, by the way, this is for you.” I reached over and passed her the folder that contained the information about her parents.

She flipped it open and read for a few minutes before she smiled, if you can call it that. I felt my nuts draw up to my ass. “Alyssa!” She hummed and ate her fries while gazing out at the clouds.

“This is the best honeymoon ever.”

“We’re not there yet.”

“Speak for yourself; my honeymoon started as soon as we got on the plane.”

“Yes, ma’am.” I guess that part of the conversation was over. I’ll just keep my eyes and ears out and alert her family to any danger if I see fit. I know she would regret really hurting them, even if she is nuts.
