“They don’t know, Brooke,” he tells her almost laughing. “Marco and I were talking about that, and…”

“I don’t care what you and Marco were talking about,” she snaps, and Lexi snickers from her spot on the couch.

“Please don’t get me involved in your marital squabbles,” Marco interrupts them, making everybody laugh.

“I got news, too,” Van interrupts. “I wanna go first.”

“Why the fuck would you go first?” Ridge incredulous. “I was here first. Besides, this is my parents’ house. I can go first.”

“But we’re from out of town,” is Van’s logic that doesn’t make any sense.

“Hunter,” I try to block everyone off and just focus on her. “Please give me just a few minutes,” I beg. “I know why you left, and it’s not what you thought. At all! I swear.”

She is just staring at me, without saying a word. Ridge and Van bickering behind us is quite the distraction. I want to throw them out, and I would if this was my house.

“Were you at that diner with Sasha?” Hunter’s voice comes strong over the sound of my heart beating in my ears.

“It’s not what you think…”

“Yes or no, Zach. It’s that easy,” she snaps.

“Yes,” I sigh and hang my head down, staring at the floor.

“Did you sleep with her?” She sounds so hurt, my heart is breaking. I hate that I caused her to be this insecure.

“No! I won’t lie, she offered. But as soon as I told her I was married, she backed off. I swear to God, baby,” I beg her to believe me. “It all happened in seconds, and you must’ve been there right when she sat by me.”

The look in her eyes tells me that my assumption is correct. She nods in understanding, but she doesn’t look ready to forgive me.

“I never slept with Bran,” her voice comes off strong. That’s the last thing I was expecting her to say. “I never slept with anyone else while we were not together,” she almost chokes on the last word.

“Baby,” I open my arms to give her a hug, but she puts a hand on my chest to stop me.

“You didn’t come home for two nights, Zach.”

“I know, I was at work. I tried texting you. My phone didn’t send the messages,” I rush to say. “It was one giant cluster after another.”

“You hurt me so much,” she hiccups, ready to break into sobs.

“Kick him in the balls,” Ridge calls from the side. I turn my head to look at him. I give him the finger, and he shrugs.

“That’s not a bad idea,” Hunter almost laughs through her tears.

“Fuck, if that’s what it takes to have you back, do it!” I open my arms wide and take a couple of steps back to give her room for it. My dick is shriveled up at the thought, but I am here to take my wife back. If this is what she needs to do to forgive me, so be it.

I stare at Hunter’s face wondering what she is going to do but refusing to move. She takes a deep breath, her eyes looking like sparkling dark orbs. I feel almost hypnotized by the light I see in them.

And that’s why I don’t realize what’s coming.

I watch as if in slow motion when Hunter’s right leg goes back, then flies forward, her foot making contact with the sensitive area in between my legs.

“Oh shit,” Van’s voice comes all deep, like I hear it through a tunnel. I fall to my knees, and my hands instinctively cup my cock, or whatever is left of it. I have never in my life felt pain like this. I close my eyes and fall forward, face planting into Eve Montgomery’s fancy Persian rug.

I have no idea what happens after that. I am completely brain dead as far as I am concerned. I think there’s some commotion around me, and at some point, I feel little hands patting happily on my head.

“Oh my gosh, I am so sorry, Zach,” Hunter’s distressed voice finally reaches my ears. It is the best sound ever.

I fall to the side and moan, cracking one eye open to look around me. I wince when she gently removes my hands that are still cupping my cock protectively, then places a bag of frozen peas over my balls. It feels oddly good, and I let out a sigh of relief.
