“We’ll figure it out,” he mumbles and starts walking toward the front door of the house.

“Why didn’t you put the car in the garage?” I eye the large door. Most people I know who have a garage, just go inside the house through there. It’s weird to walk to the front door of your own house.

“Because it’s a rental, and I don’t have room for it in there.”

With that, he opens the front door and moves to the side for me to step inside. It is dark out and I can barely see anything, but I can tell that it is a very large space. When Zach turns the lights on, I am momentarily blinded, and I blink fast to get my vision under control.

“Wow, Zach,” I look around in awe. The place is beautiful and even more beautifully decorated. You can tell that it is the work of a professional interior designer.

“Glad you approve. I’ll take these to the bedroom.” He turns toward the staircase to go upstairs, and I hike it after him when I realize that he said bedroom, as in one.

“Are we sharing a room?” I finally get the courage to ask.

“Are you getting shy on me now?” His retort would be funny if we were not in the crappy situation we found ourselves in.

“No,” I mumble. “I just didn’t think you’d want to have anything to do with me after what happened earlier.”

Zach drops the bags to the floor, echoing a thudding noise when they make contact. I jump back a little, noticing how my movement is making him frown my way.

“We need to talk,” he finally says, and I couldn’t agree more.

“We really do, Zach. I’m not sure what’s going on in your head, but…”

“How much do you owe your parents?” he cuts me off.

“What?” When did I tell him that I owe my parents anything?

“You said last night that you got a loan to pay your parents back for your tuition. How much is it for?” Oh my God, I did tell him that. I can’t drink like that ever again.

“That’s none of your business, Zach.”

“I am making it my business now that you are my wife. You can’t be walking around with a huge ding on your credit like that,” he sticks his hands in the pockets of his jeans, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet.

“My credit… What?”

“Speaking of that,” he continues like I haven’t said a word. “I need your social security number and date of birth for my attorney.”

My bottom lip starts trembling uncontrollably, and I have to sink my teeth into it to make it stop. He is already planning to get rid of me. I had already figured out from his reaction earlier that he wanted that, but I hate hearing the words. Then again, karma is getting me big time. I broke his heart seven years ago, he throws me away like nothing now. It’s only fair, I decide, even though my heart is breaking in tiny little pieces right under his eyes.

“Okay,” I finally bob my head up and down, then sit on the edge of the bed, unsure of what else to say.

“Hunter,” Zach takes two steps toward me.

“No,” I shake my head violently. “Don’t say anything anymore. I understand.”

“You don’t understand shit,” he growls at me.

I have no idea how he moved so fast, but I am suddenly being pulled by my hair into a standing position. His hand is tangled in it, and I can’t move my head at all.

“You never understood,” he sounds so angry now.

“Zach…” I cry out in pain.

“Shut the hell up,” he slams his lips on mine, knocking the breath out of me.

We both become a flurry of movements as he starts pulling at my clothes. I feel his hands unbuttoning my jeans, and I expect him to turn me around and fuck me from behind just like he did in the restroom of the hotel the other night. But he surprises me when he yanks his mouth away from mine.

We are both breathing heavy, just staring at each other. I want to touch him but am scared that he will snap at me if I do. I yelp in surprise when he pushes at my chest, and I fall back on the bed. My shoes fly off my feet, and he starts pulling on my jeans. I finally manage to take one leg out. That is apparently good enough for him because he doesn’t try to take them off my other leg.
