“No, but I can’t wait to see his face when he finds out,” I lean over when I laugh, bringing Hunter with me. She tries to elbow me in the ribs, but I dodge her successfully.

“He’s gonna fuckin’ wanna kill you,” Marco sounds almost amused. He’s enjoying the predicament we’ve found ourselves in.

“I’m counting on it, brother,” I wink at both him and Lexi, blow baby Julia a kiss, then turn around and walk toward the car Marco had brought up for us. I’m glad one of us thought of it. Although, it wouldn’t have killed him to just give us a ride to my house.

“Was that really necessary?” Hunter snaps at me as soon as we’re both in the car after I checked that our bags were placed in the trunk by one of Marco’s people.

“What?” I act all innocent, but I know what she’s talking about.

“Telling Marco about us being married. Now my brother is going to know in the next five minutes, Zach!”

“You think?” I’m counting on this creating some drama with Ridge. He’s always been up my ass about his wife, and I never had any ill intention toward her. Brooke has always been nice and all, and she is definitely a looker, but not my type. My type is currently sitting next to me in the car, and she is shackled to me for life, at least for the foreseeable future.

I know I told her that I’d get the marriage annulled, but now I’m not so sure. I need some time to think. I feel like I am missing something. There’s a huge hole in Hunter’s pregnancy story, and I need to know what that is. It feels important.

“Marco and Ridge talk a lot, Zach,” Hunter’s tone is distressed. She’s about to lose her mind over this.

Sure enough, Marco’s car rolls by us at a slow pace as it heads out of the airport yard. When I look, I see him with his cell phone at his ear, Lexi watching us with huge eyes. I wave at her, then follow them out and onto the main street.

“I think the house next to Ridge’s is for sale. I’m going to buy it,” I crack myself up when I say that. “He’ll have to see me all the time now.”

“What is your deal with my brother?”

“He hated me on sight, and it’s only gotten better since,” I joke, then get serious. “When am I going to meet your parents?”

“You want to meet my parents?” Seriously, isn’t it customary to meet the in-laws?

“I’ve always wanted to meet them,” I glance at her while making my way to my house. “Seven years is long enough of a wait, don’t you think?”

Seven fucking long years.

CHAPTER 26

Never again

Hunter

When Zach pulls into the driveway of his home, my jaw is about to hit the floor. He lives only minutes away from Ridge and Brooke, and close enough to my parents’ house, too.

“Have you always lived here?”

“No, I got this after my sister moved here,” he eyes me before getting out of the car. He doesn’t tell me not to get out on my own, but I know the drill now, so I wait. He gets to my side way too fast; I don’t have any time to process the information he just threw at me.

“You have a sister?” My brain is working overtime connecting the dots, and the only possible conclusion I can come up with is that Brooke’s best friend, Miranda, is Zach Cavanaugh’s sister. How did this happen?

“Yes, Miranda,” he confirms. “You most likely met her already since she is BFF’s with your new sister-in-law.”

“I… Yes, I know Miranda. She’s a great girl.” I am in shock. Our lives have run parallel to each other, so closely together, for all these years, and we didn’t even know it.

“It’s weird we didn’t run into each other sooner, right?” Zach’s voice sounds almost sad when he says that. Like he would’ve liked it had that happened.

“Yeah, weird,” I murmur and just stand next to the car, unsure of what to do next.

Zach walks to the back of the car where he grabs our bags. I have no idea why he brought me here. We are so close to my parents’ house, he could’ve just taken me there. I got more stuff there, that’s the only reason I’d want to go back.

“You got enough in here for a couple of days?” He eyes my duffle bag like he can read my mind.

“I’m not sure,” I admit. I thought I’d be home by tomorrow morning, so I’d packed just enough for a couple of days, which means I’ve used all my clean clothes. Plus, half of what I had brought with me was for when we went out and dressed up.
