I take a deep breath and watch as her fists curls into tight balls.

I follow behind her. “Why did you lie?”
“I just told you,” she says with a sigh. “And I never lied to you. I was telling you the story, and you went crazy in the car with me, so I chose not to tell you.”
“Because you wanted to make me jealous,” I ask.
She reaches her bedroom door, I’m only a two steps behind. She doesn’t realize how close I am when she turns again.

Her shoulders sag. “I don’t know. Maybe because you made me jealous.”
“Nine…” I breathe. “The medical rep.” I pause. “I never touched her. Nor Geri.”
She stares at me for a moment and admits, “All the girls went back to Jade’s for a drink. And I shared a cab with Ava.”

I smile. “You should’ve answered my call.”
“Why? You made it clear the kiss was a mistake. We are nothing other than employer and employee. So that makes me a free agent to do whatever I want on my nights off. And although I planned to have a one-night stand and lose my virginity to a stranger. I…”
