Heart beating in my chest, I knock on the door and wait. When I hear the pitter-patter of feet getting closer, I straighten my stance.

“You forget the code?” she asks, not looking at me.

“The day you give me the code, it will be branded in my brain.”

She looks as shocked as I am that I just said what I did, but there it is.

“That sounds painful.” She looks beyond me.

“He told me you were up, even offered to take Elle to do her thing.”

She nods and steps back, crossing her arms over her chest. “Good game tonight.”

“Missed you at O’Donnell’s.”

She looks at the clock. “You didn’t stay long.”

“Did the obligatory shot with the fam and came home, hoping to see you outside. Saw Marks instead.”

Her lips twist up briefly. “Yeah, I guess he’s going to be staying for a bit.”

“Chloe, Danny, Aggie, and York?” I ask, glancing around.

“Chloe, Danny, and Aggie left tonight. York?” She shrugs. “I think she’ll be here tomorrow.”

“So, I can kiss you, and no one?—”

“Yeah,” she breathes out as she steps to me.

“God, you’re beautiful,” I say as I lean down and take her mouth with mine.

Her lips are perfect, hot, and wet. She tastes like spearmint and some kind of fruit. I have no idea which, but right now, it’s a new favorite. I want more. I run my tongue along her lip before diving inside her mouth.

So delicious, I think as I taste her.

She breaks our kiss, and I groan in protest. Her answer to that is to grab my shirt in her hands and turn, pulling me behind her as she takes me further into her house.

It’s stunning, all original woodwork, and blah, blah, blah, I inwardly think because none of that matters as she opens a door and steps inside.

The streetlamp casts some light into the room, which is the only way I know it’s a bedroom. I’m in a bedroom with Cecilia Shaw. Fuck yes.

She closes the door behind us and pulls me against her. “I want to feel you.” Our lips smash together, but she pulls back too damn quickly, tugging at my shirt. “Take it off.”

I reach behind my head, grabbing the fabric. I pull it up and over my head then toss it to the ground.

“That’s even sexier in person than in books.”

In books? I wanna know what the hell she’s been reading.

“If this doesn’t end tonight, I’m going to insist that you do that every time.”

“It’s not ending tonight, Red; we have a date next week.”

“It’s okay if it needs to, though.”

Fresh off the Locke conversation, I assure her, “I’m not looking for anything on the road. All I’ll be doing is playing ball and counting the minutes.”

Lips doing their things, I walk her back toward the bed and decide to test out a theory.
