She’s home.

Me

Thanks, bro.

When I pull into my driveway, I notice her back porch light is on. I’m of the belief that’s an invitation if I ever saw one.

After sliding out of my parked truck, I hear laughter and not from just one person, but several.

When I walk past the garage that acts as the only barrier between our properties, I see Elle prancing around Hudson’s feet, his head tossed back in laughter as he stands at the bottom of her steps.

I love my brother, but right now, I’d like to knock his ass out because, although I’ve fallen in love with the pup, I also love that she’s a great excuse to be meandering out and about, bettering my chances of running into Cecilia.

When she starts barking, I’m sure she read my mind and is doing me a solid. I drop my duffel on my back steps and head over.

“Daddy’s home,” Hudson announces in a way that is unmistakably sexual.

“Come here, girl.” I squat down in front of her and give her some attention.

“You’d better love him up, Elle. He had a rough night.”

I glance toward my sister’s voice and see her sitting in one of the wicker rocking chairs with something hanging out of her nose.

“What the hell happened to you?” I ask, scooping Elle up under one arm and holding her like a football to get a closer look.

“This ought to be good.” Hudson snickers.

I glance left and see Cecilia with a hoodie drawn tight, sipping a glass of something adult, no doubt.

Jillian hands me a beer. “Have a drink, sit down, drown your sorrows.”

“Jillian, I’m not dicking around here. What the hell happened to your nose?”

She doesn’t answer, but Cecilia does. “Apparently, it has something to do with a Hart brother’s dick.”

“All right.” Danny chuckles. “CeCe’s clearly past her two-drink limit.”

“What about my dick?” I ask Cecilia, who still holds her drink in front of her face. “And what are you hiding?”

Chloe reaches over and pulls off her hood. “Nothin’ now.”

“Danny, control your wife.” CeCe slaps at her hand.

Her eye is black and blue and half swollen shut.

“What the fuck happened to you?”

“Open your AirDrop. I’ll send you the video,” Danny says, clearly amused.

I don’t think any bit of this is funny.

“Hey, why don’t I have the video?” Jillian asks.

“Ask your brother,” Danny answers as I pull out my phone, looking between my little sister and CeCe.

Fuuuccck. I grip my shirt above my chest and try to stop my heart from racing.

“You need ice on that.” I look at Jillian. “Whose ass am I kicking?”
