“Ruth?” She laughs.

“Red, you can hit.”

“Told you.” She grins.

“You did.” I wink.

“You should know that, group or not, that was the best date ever.” She steps in front of me. “I didn’t want it to end.”

I lean down and kiss the top of her head. “Then, it’s to be continued.”

She steps back and asks, “What’s the calendar look like next week?”

“Friday, Saturday, Sunday, we play the Brewers. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we play the Oriels, both at home. I’m at the stadium from two until at least midnight.”

“Thursday then?” she asks.

I shake my head. “We fly out around two.”

“To where?”

“Houston for three, and then to Tampa for three.”

“Back here on Thursdays?” she asks.

“Yeah.”

“Then, that Thursday, unless you don’t?—”

“That Thursday is perfect.”

“Beer?” Locke asks as I walk up the stairs to my back deck.

“One sounds good.” I take the Crawford Bock.

“Best beer in the world.”

“So I’ve heard.” I set it down and hand him Elle’s leash. “Hold her while I get her food.”

“We’ll be here.”

After bringing out her dishes, I hook her up on the run so she can have a little bit of freedom when she’s finished.

Grabbing the beer, I sit down and throw my feet up on the railing, pop the tab, and take a drink.

“What do you think?”

“I think you need to step up your game.” I nod toward the house and laugh. “Might want to write whatever you’re feeling in a note since she won’t respond to you.”

“Gwendolyn only responds to one thing when it comes to me.”

“Yeah, and what’s that?”

“Orgasms.”

I nearly choke on my beer but manage to get it down. “Probably need to use your words before you get to that point, yeah?”
