Cora smiled. “I can do not only that, but I can tell you their rank and even if they’re asleep or awake. They’re all outfitted with some kind of tracker. Look, there’s the captain up on the bridge,” she said, changing the focus of the map and pointing to the only purple dot on the screen.

“Now that could be very handy,” said Levi. “We can keep an eye on their routines from here, before we even need to go up there.”

Chapter 30

“Not the most exciting part of the mission. Is it?” Cora said. “Kind of fun to be a voyeur, but the novelty wears off surprisingly quickly.”

They had been staking out the crew’s routines for hours, and everything had fallen to repeating itself. They practically knew their sleep schedules, when they took breaks, who got the bad assignments, and who shirked their duties while foisting work on someone else.

Levi was stationed at the door to the stockroom. Cora had found an old monitor to patch into the mainframe through the wiring in the stockroom and was watching everyone on the ship go about their routines as little dots on a screen.

“I know, but it’s important that we follow through, so we know there are no changes from day to day,” Levi explained. “If I got caught because the laundry runs differently on Tuesdays, my brothers would never let me hear the end of it.”

“I know. I know,” Cora admitted. “But we don’t even pass laundry to get to the observation tower.”

Levi turned from his post at the door to the stockroom and snorted. “I told you to stand watch at the computer.”

“I am standing watch!”

“More like lying watch,” he said with a grin. “Are you literally lying down on the job?”

She stuck out her tongue from her spot on the ground. Levi chuckled.

She rolled on her back and stretched, her dark curls splaying out on the floor underneath her. Levi watched hungrily as her body twisted and writhed, wishing he was on top of her.

“Maybe we can take a break,” Cora suggested. “It’s a quiet time on the ship, as we know.”

“Not a bad idea. Wanna check out the escape pods so we can be ready once it’s time to actually use them?”

Cora perked up from her spot on the floor. “Really?”

Levi nodded. “Yeah, we should at least make sure I can fly them. Wait!” Cora was out the door before he even finished his sentence. He tried to catch her, but she darted out of his reach and giggled.

“Shhh! Follow me!” she whispered, holding a finger to her lips and running backward to taunt him.

With no choice but to comply, Levi snuck behind her, ducking from one corner to the next, glancing in all directions and checking for blind spots. He held his blaster at the ready, but Cora rushed ahead of him faster than he could cover her.

When they finally reached the escape hatches, Levi was sweating bullets. Cora calmly approached the interface to access the pods. Checking one last time to make sure no Jorvlens were on their tail, he came up behind her and swung her around by the shoulder.

Thinking he heard a noise, he pressed her against the wall and took aim with his blaster.

“Just the vent system,” Cora said.

“You know how easy it is in confined spaces to worry that someone’s coming,” he said, looking around.

“The dots are in the mess hall. No one’s around right now.”

“That’s a relief. For now.”

He was still on guard but started to relax a little bit more.

Cora kept her composure. She put her hands on her hips, pursed her delicious mouth, and arched an eyebrow. “I think you need a little bit of relaxation, my Levi.”

Switching to sultry on a dime, Cora wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him closer until there wasn’t a breath between them. Writhing underneath his body as he wished she would do earlier, her eyelids fluttered shut and she bit her lip.

Levi exhaled sharply, the wave of sensation cutting through his clouded thoughts. Cora massaged his chest with her breasts and shimmied down until she ground against his shaft.

Whatever he was thinking about now, it wasn’t getting caught. He let go of her arms and placed his hands against the wall to steady himself, allowing her to coax him nearly to completion in full view in front of the escape pods.
