Though it was the last thing I wanted to do, I slipped out from the weight of our female and showered in my own bathroom, trying not to disturb them. I found myself whistling in the kitchen, cooking every breakfast food on the planet and then some.

It wasn’t long before Malinda came in, arms crossed over her breasts, that nightgown back on. What a shame.

“Good morning. Coffee?” I asked. She nodded and leaned on the counter too far away from me. Something was wrong. No smile. She barely looked at me. I closed the distance between us “Mate, talk to me.”

“I…I woke up freaking out.”

My stomach sank. “Because I wasn’t there? Where is Koruk? Were you scared?”

“He was there. He went to take a shower in his own bathroom. I told him I was fine but I’m not. I think he knew but he gave me some space.”

I took a long, slow breath, calming myself so I could be what she needed. “Come here.” I picked her up by the waist and hefted her onto the counter and pulled her into a hug. “Why are you not fine, Malinda?”

Her breathing became shallower. “You must think I’m…”

“What? Baby, talk to me. We’ll work through anything but you have to tell me. I can’t help you if I don’t know.”

She pulled back, nailing me with those brown pools now brimming with unshed tears. “You two must think I’m a slut.”

I closed my eyes and took a few seconds. Humans and their so-called high morals about love and sex. Their labels and their systems to shame each other. I reached to cup her face and ran my thumbs over her cheeks, smearing the tears that had now fallen. “Malinda, mate of mine, you are not a slut, and I can guarantee you that Koruk and I never thought that for a second. We knew almost instantly that you were our mate and feeling a great desire to show your love to your males is nothing to be ashamed of. You are beautiful, smart, kind, funny, and so many wonderful things. I don’t ever want to hear you say that word again referencing yourself. We clear?”

She nodded and lunged at me for a hug. “You’re mine. Both of you are mine,” she whispered, wrapping her legs around my torso. “I don’t ever want you to think badly of me.”

“We absolutely are yours. We could never think bad things about you. Did we not please you last night? Do something to make you feel uncomfortable?”

“No. Of course not. It’s me. I woke up feeling achy and sore in some places and I freaked out a bit.”

Before I could say another word, Koruk strolled into the kitchen, shirtless with gray sweatpants on. He noticed our mate’s mood right away. “What’s wrong?” he barked. “Malinda? I knew something was up before.”

“Our mate has a ridiculous idea that we think she’s some kind of loose woman because of our fast-moving mating.” I refused to repeat that vile word she’d used before.

Malinda looked over her shoulder at him and shrugged. “Koruk?” She whimpered when the idea made him stare and ball his fists.

He almost barreled me over, taking her into his arms and crushing her to his chest. I heard all the loving things he whispered into her ear, including how much we loved her and how he’d better not catch her talking shit about his mate again. For some reason that made her laugh. She sniffled. “Okay. I’m okay now. But there’s something else. Also, I don’t know how to be a good mate.”

“Let’s get settled at the table and eat while we talk,” I suggested and everyone agreed.

I let Malinda and Koruk get some coffee in them and eat a bit before we started. “Being a mate is a sacred thing, Malinda, but it’s also the easiest in the world.”

“How so?” she asked.

“Do you love us and want to be with us? Live with us and grow old with us? Have a family? Not that a family is a must, but you mentioned wanting a family at some point. I know it’s fast, but do you love us?”

“Yes. I do. It seems crazy and insane but there’s nothing else I want in the world than to be your mate. Both of you.”

Koruk nodded and reached for her hand. “Then we love each other as fiercely as we can. We protect and care for each other. We are each other’s priority. It’s like marriage but it’s a bond no one can break. Sounds easy and hard, right?”

Fresh tears fell from her eyes making Koruk pull her onto his lap and hug her tightly. I took her next and did the same, rubbing circles along her back. “I love you both…with all my heart. I’m happy to be your mate. I’m all in.”

We grunted our agreement but she didn’t sit in a seat for the rest of the meal. I fed her from my hand and Koruk refreshed her coffee once she drank it all.

“I have something else to say now that I’m level-headed.”

“What is it? You can say anything to us,” Koruk assured her.

She let out a great exhale. “If you two want, I would like to start working on our family right away.”
