“Leone had everything sent up to the room last night while you were sleeping; now go!” Milo snaps at me. I huff but oblige, climbing the stairs and heading back to our room.

Once in the room, he opens the door and motions for me to enter.

“Don’t take too long, or I will carry you down there in your underwear,” Milo snaps, and he points to the walk-in closet. I wait for him to follow since they refuse to let me even pee in peace, so when he doesn’t follow, I stop looking at him.

“Wait, you don’t have to babysit me while I change?”

Milo cuts me a glare.

“While Vittorio and Dante are here, I need to keep my distance; they won’t like Leone sharing his woman. Now get dressed!” he orders. I grab the black two-piece from the drawer and quickly change. Then grab my sunglasses that are sitting with Milo’s and Leone’s. Milo was right; someone had come in while I slept and stocked the closet. All of Milo’s and Leone’s stuff is hung neatly on one side, while my stuff takes up the rest of the closet.

“Happy now!” I state coming back out to the main room. Milo gives me a once over and grits his teeth. “Change now, put the red one-piece on!” he snaps, and I peer down at what I am wearing.

“You said swimmers, I have swimmers on. I am not changing!”

“Fine, but when Leone beats your ass for putting it on display with that thong, don’t come crying to me!”

“If he didn’t want me to wear it, he shouldn’t have bought it,” I retort.

“He bought it for when it’s just us home, not while his father and brother are here, but if you want to poke the beast, go ahead; I will enjoy watching him spank that tight ass.”

I barge past him out the door when Milo storms off into the closet, grabbing a sarong and coming back out. He grabs me, wrapping it around my waist and tying it.

Milo then leads me back downstairs, and toward the back of the mansion, I hear Leone and his father arguing in the dining room. Their voices grow louder, making me nervously glance in their direction.

“Is it always like this when Vittorio visits?” I ask, wrapping my arms around my midsection.

“Don’t you ever talk back to Vittorio again, Fallon. Pissing Leone off is one thing, but angering his old man will get you six feet under faster than you can blink! Hai capito?”

I am still angry at the entire situation, but it doesn’t stop my gulp of dread, and I swiftly nod.

Milo takes my hand and leads me outside, the lush green lawns stretching out before us. The gardens are filled with vibrant flowers, perfectly trimmed hedges, and statues. Beyond the gardens, I see a sparkling pool in the center of the yard, surrounded by lounge chairs, umbrellas, and a small hut with a bar area and even a daybed.

Milo motions me toward the pool while he moves toward the bar area, and sits on one of the stools. “Seriously, I have to swim by myself when I didn’t even ask to come out here.”

“Out here is far enough away from Vittorio and Dante, and I could tell Leone wanted you out of the mansion, away from them but also not too far from him. Now swim,” he tells me, and I huff, folding my arms across my chest and glaring at him.

Milo curses and comes over to me; he tugs on the sarong rope and lets it fall. “Just get in the damn pool!” he mutters before casting a glance at the mansion. Seeing his gaze diverted, I shove him, his arms flail, and his face is almost comical. He sputters, coming up for air, only to glare at me.

TWENTY-EIGHT

FALLON

“Is it cold?” I ask, and Milo all but growls at me. If looks could kill, I wouldn’t mind dying by this man’s dark, seductive gaze. He splashes me.

“It’s heated, and you’re a brat.”

I shrug before moving toward the bar area, not intending to get in the water. I was never one for swimming, not because I couldn’t, just not something I enjoyed much since we were always on alert with Emma. However, before I reach the bar area, an arm snakes around my waist, and I shudder when I am pulled back against his chest.

“You ruined my phone,” he murmurs, setting it on the bar area.

“I’m sure you can afford another,” I tell him, and he laughs when his grip grows tighter. He starts dragging me back toward the water’s edge. He then falls in with me and I shriek as we plummet into the icy depths. The air is suddenly knocked from my lungs at the cold rush that washes through me, and I scramble back up for air.

“You lied, it’s freaking cold!” I sputter, coming up for air, and he laughs a deep throaty laugh but doesn’t let me go. Instead, he backs me up against the edge of the pool with a wicked smirk on his face.

I suddenly grow nervous with little clothing on and curse myself for not choosing the one piece. “I thought you had to keep your distance?” I blurt, which only makes him grin wider.

“No one can see us unless upstairs; we are covered by the hedges,” he purrs, caging me against the pool. He leans in, his lips brushing mine gently while I try to find some way to escape him.
