“Seems like I missed the appetizer.” I keep my tone light, even though a coil of something darker, hotter, tightens inside me. The thought alone sends a jolt of heat straight to my groin.

“Carissima, don’t be shy now,” Leone coaxes, but she burrows further into the sheets, her body language screaming defiance and shame even as it sings of desire.

“Leave her be,” I say, fixing Leone with a look that speaks of our shared understanding. “We’ll have plenty of time to play with her.”

“Patience isn’t my virtue,” he replies, his attention back on the curled-up form of Fallon, who trembles slightly like she can feel his hungry gaze on her.

“Nor mine,” I confess quietly. But for now, patience will have to be a game we both play.

Without another word, I stride toward the bathroom, the image of them seared into my mind’s eye, igniting a fire within me that I hadn’t anticipated coming back to after dealing with Dante.

I shut the door behind me with a soft click and turned the shower on, letting the water heat to a scalding temperature. As steam fills the room, it does little to distract me from what just happened. The sight of Leone between Fallon’s thighs lingers in my mind, and I’m consumed by a turbulent mix of arousal and shock. Leone’s possessiveness is relentless, except where I’m concerned; we share everything—but I never expected him to share his wife. Did he marry her only to stake a claim, or is this sharing an unspoken pact between us? A new dynamic in our twisted brotherhood?

Lydia... Her betrayal with Dante sliced through Leone like a knife. Is he guarding his heart, keeping Fallon at arm’s length by offering her to me? Or perhaps he wants assurance that history won’t repeat itself—with me as his safeguard.

The water runs down my skin, yet her moans echo in my head, not the steady drum of the shower. I lean against the cool tiles, trying to calm the storm inside me. Knowing she’s out there with him and belongs to us is maddening my desire to claim her. And my body responds to the thought with a hunger that rivals Leone’s.

As I step out of the shower, wrapping a towel around my waist, I shake my head, trying to dispel the images that threaten to consume me. But they’re etched too deeply. My loyalty to Leone has always been ironclad, yet this... This sharing of Fallon feels foreign. We’ve shared women before in the past, in our early twenties, but to share his now wife, I never could have imagined this.

My mind wanders as I dry off. Is this the beginning of something inevitable? Is he hoping to just get her out of my system and then kill her once he gets what he needs from her? Leone’s actions, of late, are a riddle, one that has me on edge. Because if there’s one truth I know, it’s that in our world, nothing is ever just black or white. There are shades of darkness that even we have yet to explore, and ones we know not to.

As I open the door, the sight before me nearly has me retreating into the steamy bathroom. Fallon is out cold, draped across the bed like some sleeping beauty, and Leone? He’s at the window, looking every bit the dark prince, with his cigarette casting a sinister glow over his face.

“Where did you put Dante?” he asks without turning, the smoke curling from his lips.

“Second floor,” I say as I reach for the lamp and turn it on. I then grab a pair of boxers from the walk-in robe. “Figured you didn’t want him prying about why I’m camping out here now.”

Leone laughs, and offers me his cigarette, and I take it, the familiar burn in my lungs grounding me as I draw back on it. I finish it in two long drags, tossing the stub out the window into the night before joining them on the bed. The smell of her fills my senses, a mix of arousal and innocence that is as intoxicating as it is maddening. Yet, as I make myself comfortable beside her, I only become more aware of her as she squirms. An hour later, I am still staring at the ceiling. She drives me nuts as she presses closer to me in her sleep, seeking warmth.

“Stop moving,” Leone grumbles as Fallon shifts in her sleep, pressing herself against me in a way that makes my body tighten in response.

“It’s not me,” I whisper back; I prop myself up on one elbow, watching her for a second to see her face scrunch up. “She’s dreaming.”

“Probably about us snatching her away.” Leone flicks the lamp on, throwing the room into a dim light that paints shadows on Fallon’s restful face.

“And that doesn’t seem to upset you,” I quip, trying to distract myself from the way she’s making my dick harden impossibly more.

“Should it? I saved her sister; let her old man live,” Leone answers nonchalantly. “She’ll be treated like royalty once she learns her place.”

“Is that why you spared them?” I ask, though I think I know the answer. Leone values loyalty above all else—except maybe control. He seems thoughtful for a second. Was it merely his need to control her, or something else.

“You know exactly why I saved her sister,” he says. “Her father was just being a father. What kind of monster do you think I am?”

But I’m not sure anymore. The lines between right and wrong have always been blurred for us, but this... this feels different.

“You don’t love her,” I state, watching his jaw work under the surface. “She’s just a means to an end for you,” I state, worried about him killing her.

“Of course. I need an heir, nothing more,” he replies, and there’s a bitterness there that wasn’t present before. “But I won’t deny she’ll be fun to play with in the meantime.”

“And then what? She’s free to go?” I challenge.

“Then... she’s yours to do as you please.” His words hang heavy in the air, and I laugh softly despite the tension knotting my stomach.

“You’re lying.” It slips out before I can catch it, and Leone’s gaze snaps to mine.

“Care to elaborate?”

Even after all these years, there are lines you don’t cross with Leone Pressutti, and that is calling him a liar. He can bluff his way around a table at the casino, but he isn’t a liar. Even now, I doubt he realizes he is in denial. He is many things including a monster, but he has always been a man of his word.
