"No one fucking told me there was a Meta in this pack!" The Alpha growled after evading another lunge. "No wonder Lykos can hold his territory so damn well."

After another lunge, the Alpha managed to backhand Remy's snout, causing her to roll when she hit the pavement. She was back on her feet and noticed the Alpha slowly trying to reach the car.

"I would have never attacked if I knew the Meta was back. You were supposed to be on that forsaken island!"

Remy stopped in her tracks. If this guy knew she was supposed to be on the island, he knew who she was. If he smelled like cedar, there may have been a chance he knew who put her there, too. They could be from the same pack!

Lykos stood at her side. Blood was running down his paws and on his chest. Remy looked up to see a small wound that was already closing along his chest. His muzzle was covered in blood, too. He won both fights and was now next to her to confront the Alpha. Remy shifted back to her human form.

"You lost. Now it's time for you to answer some questions."

The Alpha turned on his heel and ran toward the car. Remy jumped and shifted back to her wolf form to chase him down as Lykos ran beside her. With the Alpha having a few feet ahead of them, he could get back in his van. The car was still running, so the Alpha shifted it into drive and swerved it into oncoming traffic just enough to get him around the pile-up and back into the lanes to get him out of there. Remy shifted back into her human form and looked at her father. He was shifting back, too, and it only took him a minute.

"Now what?" She asked him after he was fully human.

"Now we call Myles to see if we can borrow a car to get us to the next pack." He growled, still not happy about Myles rejecting her. "I find it interesting that we are being targeted like this. I believe people think, if they just take over the pack, then issues will be resolved."

Remy chortled. "Fat chance they can win. Two packs would need to merge to take us out."

Lykos frowned. "I thought the same thing, and unfortunately, it's a possibility."

That sounds like a nightmare. "Why are we still going to continue on this, Dad? It seems like it's only causing people to attack us."

"We need alliances right now. This is the best way to go about that."

"We could end up killed because of this plan of yours."

Lykos ruffled her pink hair and chuckled. "That would take much more than what was just thrown at us. We are a force to be reckoned with, and it’s just the three of us."

Remy looked around and grimaced. Bryan had ripped out the necks of the two under the car to be sure they were dead. The other six Lycans were also dead and bloody all over the highway. There was certainly going to be a cleanup before they could move on. Remy could only hope that Myles would cooperate.

I definitely should have stayed on the damn island.

Chapter eighteen

Remy

It turned out Myles was in a cooperative mood. He sent some of his pack members in two cars to help them. One of the cars was a truck that had more than four to help with the cleanup. The car they brought along was for them to borrow to finish their tour of packs. Neither Myles nor his Beta Asher was there. Remy assumed it was due to what happened, and he didn't want to confront her again.

Good. With the mood I'm in, I would have punched him.

The pack member, who seemed to be Myles's third, handed the keys over to Lykos. "Boss says to tell you to just move on to the next pack, and we got this covered. He said you guys are losing daylight because of this, and it would be best if you just kept going."

Lykos took the keys. "We made a mess. We could help with this."

The blond third, whose eyes were moss green, scanned the area. "Nah, we got this. We've dealt with worse."

Lykos offered it again, and Remy knew it was so it didn't seem like they would just take the gift and run. Now that there was an alliance, they needed to prove they wouldn't take advantage of them. The third, whose name was Josh, still shrugged him off. Lykos relented and walked to the new four-door sedan they would be traveling in. The car's color was gray, and it had shiny chrome wheels. It looked a little sportier than the one they drove here but still had enough space for them all.

"Let's hope another pack doesn't attack us and we owe them a new car," Lykos told her and Bryan as he slid into the driver's seat.

Bryan grunted. He was still a little moody from the shifting back and forth. "With our luck, it'll be a whole damn pack next and we do end up dead."

Remy kicked his seat. "Don't speak that shit into existence. The last thing we need is for that to come true."

Lykos put the car into gear and drove away from sight. Remy looked back and noticed the pack members taking over, directing traffic, and moving the bodies out of the way. It was disheartening to witness them having to move their bodies. Those deaths were unnecessary to her. This shouldn't have been happening in the kingdom. There were more civilized ways to dispute territory lines. It had to be the Dark Dimension influencing her people to make them this insane. Lycans were hot-tempered, sure, but they were better than this. It didn't need to be this way, yet it seemed to be the new norm over the last week.

Maybe I should call Kaida.
