Suddenly, I’m not so sure. In this fiery moment, it feels like I’d do anything to keep her from falling into someone else’s hands.
Then, something clicks. And I know precisely what Rozalia wants to hear.
The truth.
“Not in a million years.”
The thick air sizzling between us seems to momentarily pause as we stare deep into each other’s eyes.
Then, without warning, a new life comes over my dazed captive. In the blink of an eye, she’s lifted her left hand and slapped me across the face.
But her fingers don’t leave my cheek after they’ve made contact. Instead, she digs them into my skin and pulls me forward.
The passion in her kiss is so unexpected I almost freeze up. But this shit is too hot to ignore. Any hesitation is quickly melted away.
Still, I’ve only barely started kissing her back when she pushes away again.
“This doesn’t mean anything,” she mumbles, wiping me from her lips with the back of her hand.
I pretend to do the same. But really, I just press the taste of her deeper into my mouth.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” I agree.
Shaking off her temporary lapse, Rozalia takes a deep breath.
“Do you have any more chicken?” she asks.
“I’m sure I could find some,” I respond, studying her carefully.
What’s happening behind those pretty green eyes?
“I believe in you,” she says.
Clearly, she wants me to leave.
Too bad.
“You tell me where Leander is, and I’ll get you some more food, kitten.”
Rozalia’s cute little button nose scrunches back up into a sneer.
“How would I know where that fucker is?”
“You seem like the type to track the movements of your business partners.”
“I’d only met him once before…” she starts, before catching herself. “Twice. And the second encounter made it clear that he wasn’t interested in being my business partner.”
“Because he wanted to be your husband…”
“I’ll show him what happens to men who try to marry me.”
My Black Cat’s slender fingers curl into fists, and her green eyes sharpen. She’s ready to kill.
Fuck.
Seeing her so angry and vengeful is such a turn-on—not that I wasn’t already hard. It almost doesn’t matter that she’s pissed off at another man.
Almost.
