“Stop torturing me.”

“Only when you stop liking it.”

“You’re such an asshole,” she mutters.

Those green eyes flutter onto my lips.

I desperately want to kiss her.

“Your turn,” I say instead. “Ask me a question.”

Rozalia hesitates. I can see the gears turning in her eyes.

“What do you want with me?” she finally asks.

“I want to play with you,” I respond, lifting my thumb up her chin, I push into the bottom of her plump lower lip.

“Stop bullshitting me,” she orders, shaking me away. “Tell me right now, why did you tell the world you wanted to marry me?”

“I thought it might piss you off enough to make a mistake,” I half-admit.

There’s no point in telling her the entire truth—about how I thought it might help ease some of my father’s concerns. She won’t buy that.

“That’s it?” Rozalia asks, flabbergasted.

“I also thought it might help draw Drago out of hiding,” I shrug.

Rozalia’s scrunched face goes limp.

“Drago…”

“How long have you two been back together?”

Rozalia’s attention momentarily slips into some dream world.

I have to rattle her back awake.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“Drago… he just showed up out of nowhere” I can feel her legs tremble as she remembers something deep and dark.

My free hand clenches into a fist.

“What did he do to you?” I growl.

“… He tried to set me up with Leander,” she blurts out.

My heart sinks beneath a landslide of rage.

“As a business partner?” I hope.

“No,” she mumbles, softly shaking her head. “As his bride.”

I nearly erupt.

I’m so fucking furious that I even let go of Rozalia. But before I can turn away, her nails dig into my forearm.

“You really don’t want to marry me?” she asks, her green eyes glimmering as she holds me in place.
